SLIGHTLY off topic in this section, but seems like a good choice for place to ask

 

does anyone play hon/dota in here?

 

 

 

also i forgot how lol won over hon getting the majority of players back in the day.. even though hon is a way better game, someone remind me?

HoN was a fantastic game. I was a RCT/Tech/GM/Mod on there and even though I haven't played in a while I still think it had more potential than League ever did. They just made the wrong business decision by making it 30$ in the start instead of making it F2P with micro-transactions from the beginning.

 

In 2013 I switched to League (and played some DotA/DotA2 every now and then) and I adjusted to the game pretty well. I still think of how big HoN could've been though. In my mind it will always be the superior game.

Heroes of Newerth. It's a MOBA like league, never played it but it's pretty "oldschool" I believe.

LoL came out before HoN.

Only oldschool moba is Dota

Ah yes i remember now, fkin pity they didnt make it free before LoL did, woulda probably gotten the majority, but also like someone else pointed out, LoL is just more child/noob friendly.

 

still abit weird to me though, i remember trying LoL and i concluded quickly that it was just a watered down copy with more childish graphics more noob-help and less demotivaters like losing gold on dieing, which is like casual mode in hon rofl, no idea why anyone would wanna play that xD

 

cool you were a tech, do u still have acc with all avatars?

 

 

@ still a good 100k+ users online at the time, which is plenty fine :)

not much before hon, and back then there were so few players that it wasnt relevant who came out first, its funny though how hon first cost money, then it became free with a handful of heroes like lol is now (no idea why anyone think this is cool/ok), then hon made all heroes free, but it was too late coz by then lol got the majority and kicked off with advertising and luring kids in with the achievement mechanics, u still have to pay tons just to play all heroes dont u?

I have an account with some vanity on it, mostly from the ''early'' days. I think I have like 25 sub-accounts are something, all of which I paid with the rewards I received from these positions. I still have my forum awards though...that was a pretty good time back then.

 

And yeah HoN was honestly just the better game. The skill cap was way and way higher than League. League just had the bigger playerbase and pushed them out of the competition.
