Zany Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 (edited) Ive hit sort of a wall in terms of gains & motivation. when i started a year ago i did a 4day split, chest+bic, back+tri, legs, and shoulder. did for about 4 months it was very good at first, good gains, but then i lost motivation, got boring basicly, so for the next 8ish months i only went 2-3 days a week and sorta maintained what i had gotten but without further gains. then my love for whisky, tequila and wine took over so i had a 5month complete break from gym.. obvious setback, so anyways since october i started up again but quickly felt the demotivation/boredom.. now ive erased back+leg day. and currently i do 2 days of chest pr week,(coz 1 day never gave me much gains), and one shoulder day with a few legs/or back extras. and to replace leg+back day i now go 2-3 times pr week to the park for running and pullups+dips. for now this is very nice, because of the fresh air and the variation, and for the 'extras' i do on gym days i just do whatever i feel i need. what is ur thoughts on this new schedule? no gains coming up or good idea? also in 1month im going back to the cold part of the world so no more park trips :( what else can i do for variety/motivation ? extra-fun-facts about me: was 70kg, now 73-75ish. i can never get past 12kg bicep pr hand (less than friends ive went with) but ive done upto 45kg frenchpress?(more than friends) i get bored/tired quickly so my gym workouts are usually 45min-1hour. pretty intense during that time though. legs r by far my biggest demotivator in the gym, hence why i resorted to run+sprints. i always focused most on back excersizes. pics coming soon(?) Henrik Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 I mean what can I say, it's all about keeping at it. I have went on and off too many times and I know exactly how you feel. I'm currently at 6 or so months of no gym, which I'm dissapointed at myself about. Just gotta get up and keep going. I'm looking to do exactly that, no more time to be lazy :/
Zany Posted November 14, 2015 Author Posted November 14, 2015 i suppose my love for whisky and wine simply means that i will never get very far. But id like to think i can still make small gains, I just lack proper variation & motivation, maybe i need to go crazy on variety with what exercises i do but seems like alot of effort to figure out/write down and not sure it will help enough. maybe im doing some things wrong. maybe im not pushing myself enough, idk.
Henrik Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 Every workout is a step in the right direction. Do what you feel like that day, change up what excercises you do etc. Even if a routine is recommended, you could start by just getting back to the habit of training. I mean if it becomes too much of a routine sometimes that's what causes us to quit or skip sessions. Don't force yourself to anything strict just go with the flow and maybe it will lead to it becoming a part of your lifestyle later.

Penguin Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 Find a reason to go to the gym (a girl who will motivate you OR who you'd want to impress)
Pick n mix Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 look into 5x5 stronglifts routine its only 3 days a week and workout should last 45 min-1 hour too
Psycho Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 (edited) look into 5x5 stronglifts routine its only 3 days a week and workout should last 45 min-1 hour toothis it will also make you gain some srs strength which will maybe motivate you to go hard on the split routines when you're done so you can make some good gains again. Steroids Posted November 15, 2015 Posted November 15, 2015 studies have shown that a well constructed 3day/week full-body routine is pretty much optimal for the natural lifter. no reason to go more than that if you cba. having said that, imo if you don't actually enjoy the hobby of lifting weights then just play sports or something for general health. its not the be all and end all of life.
