Why are you adding $1 to the 98 lmao it's still the money you borrowed, it should be $97.

 

Read the first sentence "YOU DONT HAVE ANY CASH" so the change you get back, is already theirs not yours.

So if you give them back the change $50-($3/2)=$48,50 * 2 = $97.

weird calculation not sure if you get it or not but anyways, so you barrow 100-97=3 -1 for mom and -1 for dad and -1 yourself is 100

you owe them total 98 dollars yet. you gave them each 1 making it owing them 98. then kept the other 1 for yourself. you dont add the 1 that you kept for yourself, you subtract it. meaning if you gave the 1 you kept to either mom or dad, you would owe 97. the final price of the top.
