Importantance of strength bonus

One common misconception I hear about strength bonuses is that they only matter if they increase your max hit. On the surface this may seem true, since having a max of 40.0 and 40.9 will give the exact same hit distribution (and therefore same DPS). However, in real, in-game situations, this is rarely true. Most of the time you're in combat, you will be using potions, and your strength level will not be static. While a small increase in strength bonus may not increase your max hit on paper, it will increase your max hit as your potions wear off and your strength level decreases. Using the numbers above: after 1 minute, your strength level decreases by 1, and the max hits drop to 39.6 and 40.5, respectively. Now the difference in strength bonus does result in an increase in max hit (and therefore an increase in DPS).

To give a better in-game example, I'll use myself training slayer. Right now I have 99 strength and am training attack in max slayer gear. With piety and potions my max hit is 54.6, which rounds down to 54. After the new boots come out, my max hit will rise to 54.9, which rounds down to 54. On paper, my max hit stays the same, but in reality, it still increases.

As you can see above, at 118/99 strength my max hits are the same with or without the new boots. However, at two points before I repot to 118/99, my max is higher with the new boots. This means that, on average, my max hit is 0.25 higher with the boots than without, even though my "max hit" stays the same.

TL;DR: More strength bonus always helps
