Cake Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 Uhh for the people who don't understand... For a few years (I think 4?) the X-Factor winners have claimed the #1 single on the charts at Christmas. There was an internet campaign to get rid of this generic "samey" motion that seemed to happen every year, and to spite Simon Cowell aswell. There was a huge debate and everyone downloaded Rage Against The Machines's song called "Killing in the name of", instead of Joe Mcelderry's song called "The Climb". It was a long and vicious battle, which turned out to be huge (it was the most discussed topic on facebook) and RATM were Christmas #1. Oh also, this was the first Christmas #1 to be recorded by downloads only (i think). That basically sums it up. It was nice to have a change, and considering it wasn't Christmassy, it was a massive suprise. Link to "Killing in the name of" - PS > It only reached number 25 when it was released some time ages ago :)
