Ikz Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Never really thought about this before, but how do we base a new year around the world? If I were to stand behind the EST Borderline, it would technically still be 2009 merely feet ahead of me. I guess it could be said about any time really, but for an hour you can hop between years. Major flaw in the time system.
Ultra Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 I've often laid awake at night contemplating this myself.
gfdgfd Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Hmm, i really don't understand how the timezones work in that way, that it could be 4.00 when youre 5 ft away from somewhere where it's 5.00, makes no sense whatsoever, you'd expect them to be a minute apart o.O what the hell happens if you live on the border of the timezone and you have to go back and forth? o.O

Ethan|Unicornz Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 lol i usually think about this with birthdays... could I be a year older then a year younger again by stepping a few meters?
Zany Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Dont tell anyone. i plan on doing business abusing this.
Berniej Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 lol i usually think about this with birthdays... could I be a year older then a year younger again by stepping a few meters? Or the other way around, go to another part of the world to be 18 earlier then normal, I'd say fly to holland and smoke sum B).
Zero Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 Never thought of this tbh.. :ph43r: I wonder if people between the age of 17 & 18 or 20 & 21 is abusing this '-'
Shut Up Kid Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 I have gotten so many ideas from this topic...
katalyst Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 They shape the time zone lines so they don't run through major cities or anything. You can also watch the ball drop in all the major cities. An hour after the eastern one drops, you see the central one, an hour after that, 4 hours or whatever prior to the eastern one you see the one over in whatever place they have in europe. I think the GMT line runs through some church or something tho. Hmm, you know it's really not that big of a deal. It's just whatever time people think it is.

Jef|Ohh Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 I've heard about people having multiple new years parties by flying back with an airplane to a place where it isn't new year yet.
I C0NN0R I Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 why is this such a mindfuck to some people? time is a concept created by humans, it's still the same moment in "time" whether your in the northern hemisphere or the southern hemisphere, we just use the position of the sun to judge when we act.
Eppl Posted December 26, 2009 Posted December 26, 2009 I once had a 29 hour birthday, travelled from london>miami
