How on earth is Jack Wilshere in the squad but Mark Noble isn't??

Decided to go with 4-1-2-1-2 as personally I don't see our wingers  (sterling & Townsend) being very useful and would prefer 2 of the best strikers in the premier league this season, with Rooney sitting behind

Only change I made was swapping Drinkwater out for Dier as he's more a defensive player.

I'd agree with your squad with a few exceptions jack, I'd switch Rose for Shaw (if fit) or Bertrand.

Trust me when I say you do not want to start Rose.

And you're probably better of starting Lallana instead of Henderson to play a bit more to the left with Alli a bit more to the right and Dier handling the defensive work.

Perhaps Lallana based on the fact that he's played pretty much all season compared to 50/50 match fit Henderson, Luke Shaw didn't get called up and Danny rose is in team of the season and only Charlie Daniels and Hector Bellerin  have supplied more assists among defenders than Rose this season, he definitely has a superb work rate to support the centre backs, but I like Bertrand also either could work.

I'd Drop Henderson for Lallana tbh.

And I would have taken Defoe instead of Rashford in the 26 man squad.

I would've picked completely different players to Hodgson, my 26 (23+3) man squad:

Goalkeepers

Hart

Forster

Heaton*

Defenders

Smalling

Cahill

Stones

Cook

Clyne

Rose

Cresswell

Midfielders

Dier

Drinkwater

Milner

Noble

Rooney**

Alli

Barkley

Sterling

Zaha***

Forwards

Kane

Vardy

Defoe

Sturridge

Reserves (3 incase of injuries)

Barry****

Lallana

Carroll*****

* - Not seen much of Heaton, I'd prefer Foster but I think he's doubtful due to an injury.

** - I am counting Rooney as a midfielder, I would play him much deeper, possibly even as a deep-lying playmaker.

*** - If he is fit, I think Zaha is worth bringing. Very good on the ball and has one of the better end products of the possible wide players.

**** - Lack of experienced, defensive midfielders, Barry is fantastic at this.

***** - Plan B.

However with the players Hodgson has chosen:

- Stones is inconsistent this season, but on his day can be spectacular -- I'd start him but if he messes up, I'd change to Cahill or Cook.

Smh bias to Everton ;) Milner is a shout he's got a fucking engine built into him, not really a provider but can certainly provide some cover.

Not really any bias to Everton, I appreciate Stones has been poor (mainly inconsistent) but on his day he's better than Cahill. I resisted the urge to put Barkley in (who by the way has 8 goals and 9 assists this season) :P

I was doubtful of Milner at first (being an Everton fan) but he has it all; passing, work-rate, experience -- he's tied with David Silva on assists this season!

*I should probably stop procrastinating and go revise l0l

L0L Ihenacho.

I actually already did one of these on the site for no reason before I saw this lol godbless.

However I think @@Zack 's is the best.

No WAY are you ever going to play Shaw over Rose. Rose puts his body on the line match after match and is never shy about his defending duties. You could never convince me Shaw, who's returning from a season out due to a broken leg, is going to dive into these challenges as much. These back 4 will have to be athletic with counter-attacking play being our best quality in this tournament.

My teams very similar.

The 2nd CB is always a tough one, gone with Cahill even though his positioning isn't great, He sometimes doesn't know if he should go or stay. 2:38 in this vid and you'll see what I mean

Can't justify starting Barkley, this season he's been lazy. A few games where I've watched them he's not interested, even in the start of the derby where they lost 4-0. Same goes for Stones too.

Clyne > Walker, lets face it Walkers attacking threat is good but defensively for England he's always been a bit meh.

Play Rooney behind Sterling, he never loses the ball anymore. In the dying embers of the game who do you want running at the opposition creating stuff? Sterling > Rooney @ CAM
