Well I am computerless...sort of.

Sold my last one cause it was garbage...and needed money.

Obtained a couple off mom due to her simply not being able to afford to fix them.

One is a HPE 400f. Supposedly lightning hit it...hasn't worked since. Not a for sure thing since sister n law was on it when it happened....and she's a dunce.

Plan is to replace power supply (upgrading it to a better one instead of just replacing with original 300w supply). Also replacing ram...since it went missing. Possibly traded for pills or just stolen by sister n laws brother.

If power supply doesn't fix it...the next culprit is the motherboard. Would rather not replace it with the original...would rather upgrade it and the processor if possible.

The original motherboard is a H-ALVORIX_HF-RS880-uATX with the AMD 3.0ghz phenom 2 quad core. The original motherboard is appearing hard to fine due to computer being a bit older.

If I read correctly...they're 2 types of motherboards and the stock is a uatx. Would I be able to buy any uatx motherboard and drop it in with everything being able to connect and line up correctly? Would like to keep the same case till I can afford to upgrade.

I'm seriously out of my element here. Still learning...but it's something I've been wanting to learn about.

Halp plez

Well power supply would have been first thing effected if it got hit by lightning. However...I doubt it actually did get hit.

Didn't see it do it but mom did. When they turned it on...nothing came up. The power light thing just flashed and nothing more. Looked it up and it said likely power supply. This was before the ram sticks went missing.

Also...@@Lolsor...computer ain't a bad computer. I'd come out cheaper just fixing it instead of buying a computer straight out with similar specs. I got a decent video card I can stick in it as well as a couple spare hard drives. One needs sent back in for warranty replacement though.

Just went through this exact scenario but power surge instead.

Luckily my dad is a hardware tech so has every part spare that I could use to test. Turned out CPU and GPU were both fried.

GL fixing without replacement testing though. Literally guess work :(

Yea...sucks not having spare parts to test with. Starting with the cheapest and working to the priciest works I guess. Would almost take it to a local shop...come out cheaper just to do the guess and check myself. Probably charge $50 just to tell me what's wrong... Edited by Lonnie

I think you'd be better off picking up a cheap Laptop that's new rather than spending a lot of money trying to fix this PC

I got the HP going :).

Spent $25 on a 390 watt power supply, $40 on 2 4 gig ram sticks, and took the Dell Video card out and stuck it in the HP. Works perfectly....just need a keyboard. Got one somewhere...just not sure where. House ate it I think.

So a HPE 400f with a AMD Phenom 2 3.0hz quad core processor, 1tb HDD, 2 4 gig DDR3 PNY (PC3-14900) ram sticks, and a Zotac 2 gig ZX760 vid card...have $110 in it. Buaha

5 months without runescape...gonna break that once I get hold of a keyboard.
