Clan Cup Update
 

 

The Clan Cup is among the most anticipated events in the clanning community. The repeated delays of the Clan Cup caused some confusion, but it did allow us to focus our time on some incredibly ambitious content. 

We are still incredibly passionate about offering a Clan Cup, and so I'd like to invite clan leaders to engage in discussion with us at Jagex, and with one another, in order to make the next event a reality. 

It's important to manage expectations. The Cup will not begin overnight, I'm not too well-versed on the PvM and the skilling scene, so I feel that it's imperative to engage in discussion with clan leaders. There is no date in mind as to when the Cup will take place. It'll fall on me to take what I gather from you, as would-be participants, and then pitch it to the wider Old School team. 
 

 

To help begin the dialogue I'd like to share my thoughts on the existing categories:

 

On the PvP Cup: The sheer scale of the PvP tournaments (both in the number of accepted clans, and in the number of bracket categories) was too much to create a compelling competitive atmosphere. I'm in favour of being more selective of the number of clans involved, following the application process. The reason for this is that in the past a large number of clans would enter and would be unable to commit to attending the tournament. I'm also in favour of reducing the number of ladder/brackets. The work needed to moderate and administrate the number of tournaments offered in recent years just isn't feasible. I'd like to talk to leaders of PvP/warring clans to discuss what ladders are offered.

 

 

On the Skilling Cup: The gulf between the very top skilling clans versus clans who entered on a casual basis was astoundingly large. I'm in favour of this competition pitching the most dedicated and competitive clans against one another. Again I would advocate for limiting the number of entrants in order to foster competition. In terms of the actual formatting of the competition I'd like to talk to the leaders of the participating clans to inform my decision.

 

 

On the PvM Cup: The PvM Cup was beset with the same issues as the Skilling Cup. Once again I'd like to talk with the leaders of the PvM clans to establish the best format possible.
