gfdgfd Posted January 1, 2011 Posted January 1, 2011 Funny how most christians doesnt even follow their own rules, they just believe in god and dont give a shit about the bible & the rules in christianity. Then they're not christian...you don't have to be christian to believe in god lol That'd make you just as retarded, though you wouldn't have an excuse like the christians do. 'you' >implying I believe in their shitty floating man in the sky. You used the word "you" in the same sense i did moron, that is, as a generalization of people as a whole, not specifically you. yeah no need to be rude, was I rude to you simon?
ccdnn Posted January 1, 2011 Posted January 1, 2011 God revealed a holy book to Jesus called the Injeel, some parts of which may be still available in the teachings of God to Jesus in the New Testament. But this does not mean that the Bible we have today because it is not the original scriptures that were revealed by God. They underwent alterations, additions, and omissions. This was also said by the Committee charged with revising The Holy Bible (Revised Standard Version). This Committee consisted of thirty-two scholars who served as members of the Committee. They secured the review and counsel of an Advisory Board of fifty representatives of the co-operating denominations. The Committee said in the Preface to The Holy Bible (Revised Standard Version), p. iv, “Sometimes it is evident that the text has suffered in transmission, but none of the versions provides a satisfactory restoration. Here we can only follow the best judgment of competent scholars as to the most probable reconstruction of the original text. The Committee also said in the Preface, p. vii, Notes are added which indicate significant variations, additions, or omissions in the ancient authorities (Mt 9.34; Mk 3.16; 7.4; Lk 24.32, 51, etc.). Christians take their information about Jesus from the Bible, which includes the Old and New Testaments. These contain four biblical narratives covering the life and death of Jesus. They have been written, according to tradition, respectively by Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. They are placed at the beginning of the New Testament and comprise close to half of it. Encyclopedia Britannica notes that "none of the sources of his life and work can be traced to Jesus himself; he did not leave a single known written word. Also, there are no contemporary accounts written of his life and death. What can be established about the historical Jesus depends almost without exception on Christian traditions, especially on the material used in the composition of the Gospels of Mark, Matthew, and Luke, which reflect the outlook of the later church and its faith in Jesus. Then they're not christian...you don't have to be christian to believe in god lol In my language, a christian is one who believes in god, the bible, jesus etc. the majority of the people in my country are what we call 'christians', but like i said they dont follow the rules of the bible, just like I have muslim friends that believes in allah/the quran but they dont follow there rules.. eg they drink, take drugs, etc. I was trying to make a point, that its funny how the majority of religious people today dont follow their own rules. do you get this point or no? I also never stated that you have to be a christian to believe in god... 'lol'.

d3th Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 Religion has always been a topic of debate. But at its core, what makes a religion believable is its ability to create trust and HOPE. Hope is what destroys logical reasoning. All the little stories within the bible shows "miracles" and "blessings" to create a sense of hope within people's hearts. So that in dire times, people will turn to "God" and hope that all turns well. However, from a purely statistical sense. If a person is left in a worst case scenario, then it would be logical that the situation can only get better. And since people "believed" in their God, then they will make a erroneous conclusion that it was the work of their God that made everything better. However, these are just my views, and are viewed under the discretion of others. I did not mean to offend or undermine any person's beliefs or teachings.
Zany Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 Some jerk told me the other day that morale comes from religion and without god there is no right and wrong. i got very angry.
Smush Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 i got very angry. And this is exactly why atheists need to control their anger. Don't be the next Jared Loughner. Take a chill pill, relax, and think about the consequences of those actions. If you want, you can speak to a priest, or just meditate and reflect upon your future. But please do not take your anger out on others.
