Cxdy Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 (edited) Been looking into upgrading my pc the past couple weeks. Will be going AMD once again. Tight-ish budget, ~$800. Wondering if I should go for the Ryzen 3 2200G, quad-core with a built in iGPU or the Ryzen 5 1600X, 6-core 12-thread. Benchmark comparison: https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/AMD-Ryzen-3-2200G-vs-AMD-Ryzen-5-1600X/m441832vs3920 Builds are as follows: 2200G: CPU: AMD - Ryzen 3 2200G 3.5 GHz Quad-Core Processor ($93.99 @ SuperBiiz)CPU Cooler: be quiet! - Dark Rock 4 CPU Cooler ($67.49 @ SuperBiiz)Motherboard: ASRock - B450M PRO4 Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard ($82.78 @ SuperBiiz)Memory: Corsair - Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3000 Memory ($129.99 @ Amazon)Storage: Gigabyte - UD PRO 512 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($69.89 @ OutletPC)Video Card: XFX - Radeon RX 580 8 GB GTS Black Core Edition Video Card ($189.99 @ Newegg)Case: Phanteks - Eclipse P350X (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case ($59.99 @ Amazon)Power Supply: SeaSonic - 520 W 80+ Bronze Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($56.61 @ Newegg Business)Case Fan: be quiet! - Pure Wings 2 120 51.4 CFM 120mm Fan ($9.99 @ SuperBiiz)Case Fan: be quiet! - Pure Wings 2 120 51.4 CFM 120mm Fan ($9.99 @ SuperBiiz)Case Fan: be quiet! - Pure Wings 2 120 51.4 CFM 120mm Fan ($9.99 @ SuperBiiz)Case Fan: be quiet! - Pure Wings 2 120 51.4 CFM 120mm Fan ($9.99 @ SuperBiiz)Total: $790.69Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available 1600X: CPU: AMD - Ryzen 5 1600X 3.6 GHz 6-Core Processor ($159.60 @ Amazon)CPU Cooler: Cooler Master - Hyper 212 Black Edition 42 CFM CPU Cooler ($40.98 @ Walmart)Motherboard: ASRock - B450M PRO4 Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard ($82.78 @ SuperBiiz)Memory: Corsair - Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3000 Memory ($129.99 @ Amazon)Storage: Gigabyte - UD PRO 512 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($69.89 @ OutletPC)Video Card: XFX - Radeon RX 580 8 GB GTS Black Core Edition Video Card ($189.99 @ Newegg)Case: Phanteks - Eclipse P350X (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case ($59.99 @ Amazon)Power Supply: SeaSonic - 520 W 80+ Bronze Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($56.61 @ Newegg Business)Total: $789.83Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Edited January 1, 2019 by Cody9204
Fifth Gate Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 (edited) 1600x easily dude. Trust me I've done my research thoroughly and the 2200G youre limiting yourself. @Cody9204 Actually Ryzen 5 1500x or 1600x with a 1070 gpu or 1060 gpu is the best budget builds now. trying to find the links where I saw 1070s for $230ish Edited January 1, 2019 by Kurama 1

Slothy Posted January 2, 2019 Posted January 2, 2019 Don't go with the APU go with the 1600x. Also you could save on the 580 by getting a used 480 8GB which will do 1080p gaming fine. You can also get a PRIME X370 motherboard for a decent price these days as well so check on that. 1
dontdie Posted January 2, 2019 Posted January 2, 2019 if you turn it off and then on again it usually fixes it.

`SZN Posted January 2, 2019 Posted January 2, 2019 If you plan on wanting to game without error go with Intel with that being said get a MSI motherboard along with getting a real gpu also what are you wanting to play exactly?

Not paying for Intel's overpriced CPUs. Nothing specific. May get back into ESO, but looking for 1080p 60fps minimum on modern AAA's and the 580 hits that sweet spot for a good price. Will also probably drop in price after their new mid-range gpu lineup is released later this quarter. Same for the CPUs - so here's hoping the 1600X also drops in price. Winnetou Posted January 2, 2019 Posted January 2, 2019 (edited) gtx 1060 would be a better choice imo both cards are 2+ years old already id also pick a 8th gen i5 Edited January 2, 2019 by Winnetou 1
J P Posted January 2, 2019 Posted January 2, 2019 Not bad but I would go for a Windows 7, Gtx 1060+, Intel I7 4ghz+ quad core. Atleast with 8GB of RAM then get a motherboard with a intel 3.0 controller support and DVI support.

I'm running gtx 1060 6GB and I'm very satisfied with it. And go for W10 .. 1

And go for W10 .. Well the difference between Windows 7 and Windows 10 is that Windows 10 is a attempt synchronize of the OS on all its products. That includes the PC, laptops, tablets, phones, also on the Xbox. Where as Windows 7 is only supported on the PC and laptops. Windows 10 just makes using the laptop and PC simpler.

And go for W10 .. 1060 6gb has been proven to only be 1-3% better performance-wise than the 580 8gb and the 580 is currently cheaper and is predicted to drop in price this quarter with AMD's new line up mid-range cards coming out in a few weeks. CES 2019 is next weekend. ? Also, I plan to overclock a bit so the only 8th gen i5 i could get is the 8600k. But, I'm not paying 60% more for the CPU with a 17% increase in performance on such a small budget haha. Also #FuckWindows10

Windows 8.1 Pro is life.
