Well the difference between Windows 7 and Windows 10 is that Windows 10 is a attempt synchronize of the OS on all its products. That includes the PC, laptops, tablets, phones, also on the Xbox. Where as Windows 7 is only supported on the PC and laptops. Windows 10 just makes using the laptop and PC simpler.

W7 is outdated and barely get any updates at all anymore which is why its not recommended before. Yes, it was the best one before W10 came out but now theres no reason to choose it over W10. I mean would you still use Android 7/8 when a stabile, quicker and much safer Android 9 was out? I dont think so.

1060 6gb has been proven to only be 1-3% better performance-wise than the 580 8gb and the 580 is currently cheaper and is predicted to drop in price this quarter with AMD's new line up mid-range cards coming out in a few weeks. CES 2019 is next weekend. ? Also, I plan to overclock a bit so the only 8th gen i5 i could get is the 8600k. But, I'm not paying 60% more for the CPU  with a 17% increase in performance on such a small budget haha. Also #FuckWindows10

You could be right bout that, havent really checked it out I'm just saying I recommend the gtx 1060 cause its fairly cheap and a great card. And yea good idea as long as you know youre doing. I got some upgrades to do aswell, last year I upgraded both screen and GPU with the mentioned gtx 1060. W10 is lit dude what u on about

W10->W7->WXP---------> W8.1 lmao im not even joking could never stand using w8...

8.1 is way better than 8 lol. I've had 0 problems with it. The reason I never switched to W10 was because I heard they were making pirated software/games unable to run on W10. And I pirate all my software/games.

Ye heard its a bit better, but I dont just like the way its setup at all. W10 feels like an updated W7 imo,  while W8 feels like something completelyt different. And you can you run pirated games and/or software on W10, you could always turn of a firewall or any other option if youre using Windows Defender. You can even turn the whole thing off and use another antivirus program if wanted.

Well I just did a little digging and it seems that Microsoft CAN disable you from playing pirated games. But only games that they own that has anything to do with Xbox.. so Minecraft/Halo etc.

I may look into getting Windows 10 on the new rig but rn Windows 8.1 PRO is cheaper and I'm used to it. I can get 8.1 PRO off reddit for $25 while W10 Home is $40.

Yea true. And you definetly should. W 8.1 might be cheaper but do they still come with updates and such to it still? And I think those 15$ extra is so worth it. Soz for late answer btw. I'd love to discuss CPU with you aswell that could be a long ass discussion right there lmao, it's a lot to choose from atm! I'm looking for a new one myself.

Yes, but I turn off automatic updates and just do it once a month. I think I'm going to stick with the 1600X and wait to see what prices do the next few months. Might even snag me a 1700X 8-core since rendering f2p events takes forever.

Ignore the prices, most aren't accurate. Huge bump in workstation usability.

Hmm it's not a bad price at all but I'd definetly overclock that cause 3.4/3.6Ghz isn't much on a new CPU. That's whats my old i5 cpu is running on OC'ed. But yea if you can OC to 4.0 GHz stabile then it seems pretty good. I'm gonna look more into it tomorrow and do some comparisons with cpus around that bracket.

I've been running my FX-6300 OCed at 4.1 stable for the last 5 years haha. I'll definetly be overclocking my CPU as well as my memory. I've never overclocked a GPU but I might look into it.

Been hell trying to find compatible ram that's at least 3000MHz or faster that's not over $200 lol. I've settled on the 1700X and G.Skill Ripjaw V-series @ 3200MHz and it's a whole $0.10 cheaper than the Corsair LPX 3000MHz I was going to get and listed on QVL. So now I'll just sit back and let the prices do their thing while I save up and watch AMD's keynote this next Wednesday at CES 2019.

EDIT: Holy shit, finding 1700X's brand new on Ebay for $130 rn.

Looking good. As previously mentioned you should definitely get the prime x370 pro - https://www.asus.com/uk/Motherboards/PRIME-X370-PRO/.

Ryzen has some difficulty overclocking in all honesty. I am running the 1700x atm it is a little beast.

Not bad price for 16GB RAM either.

Edit:

Windows 8 is an abortion that should never be used. You can get Windows 10 keys for well cheap, less than $40.

I'm good on my mobo. Saving money by dropping down to MicroATX and a few other extras I don't need. It was voted one of the best MicroATX boards of 2018 as well. Has everything I need including 4 ram dimms, an nvme & m.2 sata port for future-proofing, usb 3.0, good amount of fan connectors and the ability to overclock.

Also agree on Windows 8, it's garbage. Good thing I have 8.1 Pro. ?

Why in the hell would he choose W7 over W10? Fuck that

Agreed. I'm running gtx 1060 6GB and I'm very satisfied with it. And go for W10 ..

lol we're in 2k19 & I still have W7 personally the only thing I need to do is update my CPU since I build my cpu about 3 years ago

RAM is really the only thing I would update on that. Single-channel memory is really dragging you down and you can get some nice speed DDR4 pretty cheap. Prices could still be going down on ram too. The 4770k is still a very relevant CPU.

Last builds looks good, would consider spending 10-15 more on your gpu to get a different brand, that xfx 580 is like a jet taking off under load (unless you don't mind ofc)

I've been sitting next to a stock-fan Rosewill-brand lawnmower for the past 5 years. I am completely deadened to fans making noise. I'm sure prices will start to lower on the 580 & 590 in the coming months then I could look at different brands or possibly even an upgrade to a fatboy.

Thinking about taking my chances and bidding on a used 1070 on Ebay. I got my R9 280X used off ebay for cheap and it's been running like a champ for years lol.

I thought I'd update you all on my new setup now that it's built.

Ignore the CPU temp, it's ~28-30C idle and stayed ~60-61C after an hour of Prime95 after I overclocked it to 4.0GHz.

fc6b0f349d.png

Had to return the original M.2 drive I bought because it was the wrong key. I thought my board was B+M, but it's M-Key.

So the one listed is the one I'll be buying inabit when my refund comes in. So I had to pull my old 1tb drive off the other rig and install Windows 10 on it for now. My 2tb seagate drive is on the way rn. so I'll have a 512GB M.2 drive for OS/apps/online games and 3tb of mass storage.

CPU: AMD - Ryzen 5 2600 3.4 GHz 6-Core Processor  (Purchased For $164.99)
CPU Cooler: Scythe - FUMA Rev.B 79 CFM CPU Cooler  (Purchased For $46.99)
Thermal Compound: Thermal Grizzly - Kryonaut 1g 1 g Thermal Paste  (Purchased For $8.39)
Motherboard: MSI - B450 TOMAHAWK ATX AM4 Motherboard  (Purchased For $110.41)
Memory: G.Skill - Ripjaws V Series 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory  (Purchased For $119.99)
Storage: HP - EX920 512 GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive  ($84.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Western Digital - Caviar Blue 1 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive  ($0.00)
Storage: Seagate - Constellation ES 2 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive  (Purchased For $37.99)
Video Card: Sapphire - Radeon RX 580 8 GB NITRO+ Video Card  (Purchased For $169.37)
Case: Phanteks - Eclipse P350X (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case  (Purchased For $64.88)
Power Supply: Corsair - CXM 550 W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply  (Purchased For $59.99)
Case Fan: be quiet! - Pure Wings 2 120 PWM 87 CFM 120mm Fan  (Purchased For $10.99)
Case Fan: be quiet! - Pure Wings 2 120 PWM 87 CFM 120mm Fan  (Purchased For $10.99)
Total: $889.97

So far I've only installed 2 games on here since I'll be doing another clean install in a week or two, Assassin's Creed Origins & Witcher 3, but they're running at 1080p maxed out ultra settings and getting some pretty amazing frame rates. It's been a while since I've been able to run games at such high settings. Feelsgoodman.
