yo any pc tech boys?

Recommended Posts

Gonna buy/build a real pc in the next week or two, I bought a new laptop back in january because I'm lazy but regretted it immediately and got my money back. Need some tech boys to give me the run down on what I should get, dos/donts what to look out for etc.

When I was looking into building a pc last year the meta was actually prebuilts because of gpus (?maybe idk) is that still the case?

rough budget: ~£650/~850$

I need

-monitor

-cheap but decent speakers (mostly use headphones but sometimes i just wanna chill)

-mic

-PC

I'm not much of a gamer but I would like to be able to play shit like Fallout/Elder Scrolls all modded up with no issues and have the ability to play new releases incase something catches my eye. Cheers!

Following because I'm in the same boat. I bought a set of Turtle Beach Stealth 600's for my ps4 to use as mic and found their compatible with pc/laptop. Not the best mic out there but they've been a good investment imo.

I definetly recommend you to build yourself, thats gonna save you alot of money. But say you need a PC, what do you mean with that exactly lol. Are you thinking about upgrading your current comp or just get a new monitor, mic n speakers?

Yo, since u arent playing fps games and are low budget, take monitor with 60hz and resolution 1920x1080, they are cheap af like 100 bucks these days.

What comes to pc, i would search for these parts:

-Intel Core i5 6600k.

-Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti or better.

-750w powersupply

-Motherboard for example: Asus Prime Z370-P II

-DDR4 16gb memory

If u need help building whole pc from beginning to end, i can help.

Literally new build from scratch, new monitor, new mic and decent speakers that won't cut too much into my budget.

-For speakers just go with a surround sound bluetooth speaker with good ratings on amazon. Buy an aux cord for it for no sound delay. You can connect your phone to it for music.

-1920 x1080 monitor

-You can go with what @NiK0 said for a build, although you can also go for an intel i7-8700 processor which would be an upgrade, and is common in newer builds.

I recommend using this site to see other builds: https://pcpartpicker.com/builds/#X=77716,97183&sort=a3&s=30&page=1

You can filter the builds by price, and u see what parts are being used for gaming etc.

With that site im sure u will find build for your likes.

I did not include a headset or speakers because those are completely subjective. This build leaves you with about $70 to find a good headset/speakers. The monitor I found was only $107 for a 60Hz/Freesync-compatible with a 3ms response time. The GPU also currently comes with 2 free games: The Division 2, Resident Evil 2 or Devil May Cry 5.

CPU: AMD - Ryzen 5 1600 3.2 GHz 6-Core Processor  ($143.89 @ OutletPC)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master - Hyper 212 RGB Black Edition 57.3 CFM CPU Cooler  ($36.99 @ Newegg)
Motherboard: MSI - B350 TOMAHAWK ATX AM4 Motherboard  ($93.98 @ Newegg)
Memory: G.Skill - Ripjaws V Series 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory  ($99.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Seagate - Barracuda 1 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive  ($42.15 @ Amazon)
Video Card: PowerColor - Radeon RX 570 4 GB RED DRAGON Video Card  ($139.99 @ Newegg)
Case: Phanteks - Eclipse P300 Tempered Glass (White) ATX Mid Tower Case  ($59.99 @ Amazon)
Power Supply: Corsair - CXM (2015) 450 W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply  ($54.99 @ Amazon)

Thanks guys I'll use both of your builds as a starting point and go from there, I haven't had the time to check yet but I'm a little worried about how those $ prices will hold up in the UK like for example when I was looking at prebuilts last year a pc that was $599 in NA would be £599 over here from the same manufacturer despite the fact that £599 is closer to $800. Also niko I might take you up on that offer if I'm struggling, I have a general idea of what I'm doing but I might need some pointers.

Any pre-built you find will be complete trash compared to building your own. They always cheap out on slow memory/low-tier gpu and then markup the price by putting their name on it.

I swear at the time pre-builts were better value for money because gpus were stupidly expensive due to bitcoin mining but I'm aware that traditionally building a pc has always been the best option. Quick question for you guys @NiK0 lets say I did want to play some FPS like COD4 or even try out something like Apex Legends how much would a 60hz monitor impact my play compared to a 144hz monitor? Is there a good middle ground between 60 and 144 or should I just commit to 1 or the other?

GPU mining is dead so theirs + RAM prices are dropping hard. The only people that would tell you that higher refresh rate monitors making you better at FPS are the people that sell them and the people that can buy 5 of them. If you want higher refresh rate but can't afford a 144Hz then you could always grab a 75Hz monitor. This one is 1080p Freesync-compatible: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/QYjWGX/acer-umwx1aa001-215-1920x1080-75hz-monitor-umwx1aa001
