Wanting to learn

Hey, i've been thinking about starting to make signatures with photoshop or other programs. But i have zero experimence of doing it. I am not talented in visual arts irl or on the computer. For making those sweet signatures with PS, does that matter? I'll give this a go and will check out the beginner guides etc. Do you gfx artists got any advices for an extreme beginner?

If you got any questions, please post.

im no expert, but im one to help and i have some experince. i feel that just playing round in ps really helps mess around with the many filters the liquify tool burn and dogde tool as well as smudge sharpen and blur tools as these are probally the ones you will use the most. see what effets you can come up with learn how incorporate c4ds into your work but most of all have fun. use planetrenders to get renders and c4ds . remember deviant art is your friend,

btw you better had appreciated this as i had to write it on my ps3 browser :P

Everything you'll need to know to get started can be found here

I don't know why people don't view the sticky that often

Exactly, that's the same reason why we get so many request topics nowadays.

^ As i said.

I'm here just asking for some off-topic tips for gfx'ing. Not tutorials for photoshop as i said before, and i get the feeling that you just thought "another noob who didn't read the stickys". One of the two sites is broken and the other one is just full of pictures and i don't really see that improving me technically in graphics.

So thanks d72 and wytch for your meaningless off topic argues, i expected more. And severed: thank you for your post.

Ah, I see. Sorry for that then.

I think you actually should read some tutorials.

By doing that you gain experience, know how every tool works etc.

I found a site that might be helpful. I think it's got easier tutorials, to learn, aswell as some harder things to do.

This is the site. http://gfxtuts.com/

Good luck & I hoped I helped out a bit.

Thanks, btw what version of Photoshop should i use?

It doesn't really mather, as I don't see many big changes. Though I'd say you should try to put your hands on Adobe Photoshop CS4.

I wasn't insulting you, I was directing you to a sticky because I am sick and tired of repeating myself over and over like a broken record every time someone asks me "haw2phthosohp?"

Also, if they're broken, it could help A LOT to kind of let us know/post on the topic telling us that they are instead of arguing for your selfish benefit.

Also, once again if you BOTHERED to READ the STICKY you would SEE that DEVIANTART the SITE WITH PICTURES is for PHOTOSHOP RESOURCES AND STOCKS TO MAKE YOU SIGNATURES.

EDIT: http://www.gamerenders.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=381117

The sitre just went down for a few days, it's not broken, and the creator just finished saying that it's almost done. Thanks for wasting your time and energy arguing claims that don't make sense.

And for the record, I wasn't saying directly to you that you didn't view the sticky, I'm talking about the 10,000 inboxes I get asking how to make signatures/people asking me in IRC/people making topics.

Usually pertains to tutorials. And you're not gonna go anywhere photoshopping any time soon if you don't attempt word-for-word tutorials, just a heads up.

Just thought I should mention that before you went on your rage I didn't think you were a kid who didn't read stickies; I NOW feel as if you're an ignorant, selfish individual who asks us for help and throws it back in our faces. Thanks for making me feel good abut my job.

Yesterday that site was completely gone (it linked me a broken white site with some empty file links, not like the one that's on right now. Oh well...

I NOW feel as if you're an ignorant, selfish individual who asks us for help and throws it back in our faces.

I understand why you think so, and i apologize. But i had been thinking about photoshopping for a while and when i made my post all i got was corrections where i should find the pictures and sorta annoyed replys. But i do admit that i overreacted and "raged", but that's what i felt in that moment.

I hope that you dont think me as ignorant, immature selfish invudual becouse that is not me, i've been misunderstood. Have a good day.

Why don't you just ignore those then? I am more sick of seeing your flamming then them asking for help.

But I didn't flame him in the first place, I directed him to a sticky showing where one would begin to work with Photoshop and he obviously took a comment I wrote in general the wrong way and decided to curbstomp me for it. Also, I didn't even flame him, I got irritated and typed with an angry tone; way different from flaming somebody.

@Hex: Thank you for taking the time to apologize. I too apologize for kind of going ADHKGAJHSK:N: when I should have suppressed the situation rather than just blowing my top off and going RAWR.

If you're starting out for Photoshop, best thing to do is to seriously read tutorials. Follow them word-for-word at first, but if they supply stocks with the tutorial don't use them; it's better to integrate your own images so that you can get a feel for grasping how to incorporate your inspiration and ideas to certain aspects, if that makes any sense (I'm tired, please don't mind my rambling). I know tutorials are boring but hey, everybody starts somewhere, right? Eventually, after you get good at tutorial work, you can start putting your own spin on things, such as importing an element from a previous tutorial into another one, and just keep going from there.

Now as for the sites, I find GameRenders to be the best tutorial website (when it's up). You have to register an account, but the tutorial database is fairly large, so it kind of makes up for itself.

For the images in making signatures, plus brushes for effects, DeviantArt is probably your best bet. They have, once again, a huge selection of trusted Photoshop downloads, as well as stock pictures for editing that actual artists took.

I also kind of recommend planetrenders.net. They have renders you can use, plus tutorials, but I don't really trust them for anything more than their C4D's after I got a trojan off of an image I saved from them.

If you have any other questions, hit me up with an inbox or post here.

Also, don't be afraid to show your work; even if you think it looks bad, we can look at it and tell you what you should do to improve next time. As much as we can blow up (*cough*) we can also help you, and we won't flame people for posting their work.

Good luck! :nice:
