Just as a bit of fun i was on youtube watching those sped up recordings of people making pixels to see if i could pick up on some techniques and this one video i wated when he was making shadows he drew on the dark colour the did something and the dark colour and the lighter colour like blended so it didn't just suddenly become dark and it looked great. Does any one know how to do that? I'd be very grateful.

Thanks in advance

If you linked to video, it would help. But I am guessing he done it like this:

Solid Color > Select black color #000000 > Select Alpha mask in Solid Color layer > Select paint bucket, color black and fill alpha mask which is white to black (should make background transparent) >Select brush > Soft, low opticity > select white color > brush on alpha mask to get black appear ( the higher opacity of brush, the more black shadow u gna get ) if you want to remove some shadow just switch to white and paint on alpha mask.

using photoshop is cheating, it makes it too easy, i.e create paths and stroke path with pencil tool, same result, way less effort.

and posterizing gradients. fuck that's cheap shading.
