Grime artists splurt out a good 4 bar every now and then, and when they do they're good not great. All grime artists combined couldn't create a 64 that could compete with Rhyme Asylum, Klashnekoff, Doc Brown etc.

As far as lyrical content goes: UK Hiphop > Grime.

You obviously don't know what you're talking about. He starts with lyrics that the normal person would say is called "jiberish". If you know how lil wayne does it he starts out with the story that doesn't make sence and his secondary verse's make it come together. Most of the time that's not the case but on a few songs it is. He does use alot of symbolism, which makes it hard for some people to understand what he's trying to say.

There's a scene when he's working on let it rock and out of no where starts swinging his arms around and laughing like he's on heroin. He does syrup but the amount he intoxicates himself with could be the same as saying he's drinking heroin. Just read his lyrics and try to figure it out.

Are you fucking serious? Record sales don't distinguish a rapper's talents. Look at soulja boy.. That faggot's probably gone platinum by now and that makes him a good rapper?? Gucci man is utter SHIT. I've kept my nose outta this until now, but something has to be said to make you clowns realize that 99% of mainstream rap is complete and utter garbage. And most of it is from the south... The only rapper that has risen from the south with ANY amount of credability, that is still relevant in today's society (barring andre 3k and big boi, outkast) is T.I. Chamillionaire has some ALRIGHT lyrics if you're into that kinda thing, but anyone else can off themselves.

I didn't mention Wayne because imo he's severely overrated. 90% of his lyrics are total ass. The other 10% are great. I don't personally listen to him, except his feat on Carter with with Hova "Mr. Carter" and "drop the world" which coincidently feature 2 of the greats that made those songs worth listening to. Now, wayne's mic presence is undeniable and his flow is amazing, but his lyrics lack any sort of substance at all. He literally says NOTHING for a 3 minute track, 99% of the time.

Don't get me started about him using metaphores and similes because his metaz are WACK. If you wanna hear a punchline rapper, listen to some old shit from Big L or Big Pun. These cats got nothing on them. Hell, listen to some immortal technique or Apathy or JMT..

All in all you cannot defend wayne or gucci and be serious about it. These 2 are part of the problem in hiphop culture today, not the solution. It's a generation of faggot ass rappers that get on an instrumental and say nothing except "Look how rich i am, I sip sizzzurp and drive nice cars" <<<< ok, you sound like every other motherfucker that came before you. And yet these kids wanna be cool, so they see these marketing schemes and eat that shit up like it's valium.

Do you know why Eminem, Nas, Hova and Kanye are 10x more successful than these bargain-bin, 10 cents a dozen artists? Because they actually say shit when they spit. Every one of them (and others similar, which i havent gotten to yet) actually SAY something on a track. Listen to "can't tell me nothing" by Kanye, "regrets" by jay z, "one mic" by Nas, or basically any track Eminem has gone hard on.. "stan" - "Kim" - "White america" - "Sing for the moment", etc..

Now onto the argument about "You can tell how good an artist is because of how much he sells"

I'mma list songs that have 10x more content and meaning than any song wayne or gucci has ever came with, and they're all by underground cats.. Meaning they don't sell much of anything except enough to live off from..

Atmosphere: "Glass house" - "Find a Balance" - "Me"

Brother Ali - "Uncle Sam Goddamn" - "Forrest whitiker" - ""dorian"

Sage Francis - "Escape artist" - "sea lion" - "Good Fashion"

Joell Ortiz - "HipHop"

Crooked I - "If you ever hear me"

^^^ None of those artists have sold in excess of a "Gold album" but ALL of them say shit when they rhyme. Skill is not measured by record sales, no matter wha tthe mass media wants you to believe.
