99 mage isn't pointless, it's another skillcape, a pretty cool one at that, smite i'd say is worth it, it puts people off balance when they're being smited they have to worry more about prayer points meaning they panic, not in all cases, but a lot of cases, but atleast get 45 prayer for the mage prayer for bridding.
