College.

Hey guys, its Drew.  A lot of you i've known for years but now its time for college.  RS has passed and thats that.  Heres the problem.  I really don't know what i major in.  It comes down to 2 options. Electrical Engineering or A high school math teacher.  My dad is currently the owner of a million dollar engineering business, in which i could take over some day if i pursued the path of the engineer, however my heart is really with kids (and not pedofile, like impacting their lives.)  I love being with people and know how much fun teachers can light up a persons day.  So it comes down to that.  Yes money matters, but in the end,  you have to be happy, so what would you do?

Go with engineering or go for something like social worker, or guidance councelor. If helping people or kids specifically is what you really want to do with your life and if it's what you love, then if you have to go back to high school and do an extra semester or even a year, it will be worth it.

yeah, but i think being in a classroom and teaching them and just hanging out would be great, and in the summer i could work at like a camp or something.

Shut Up Kid

Engineer and retire as a teacher. And with the job rate nowadays with teachers it'd be hard to find a job and you'd most likely have to move. So engineer because you sure you will get the job, and like you said you'll probably take it over so once you get lotsa money you can retire as a teacher.

Go with your heart but highschool math isnt where your gonna get kid bonding, try k-4.

Past 5th grade kids develop an attitude and more class clowns and shitty kids, and it also depends on the school and population, dont teach highschool math in oakland california :D

well, i guess i worded it wrong, I know how funny high school teachers can be and how fun the classrooms can be, so thats why.

Engineering will teach you HOW TO THINK. You don't have to be an engineer in the end. The logical problem solving skills you learn, however, will be much more valuable than whatever skills you learn pursuing education.

Trust me.

I'm finding it hard to follow your logic.

dude i'm gonna be 22 in a few months, i REALLY wanna teach jr. high history (because that was the class i was the biggest asshole in growing up), major in you're DAD'S field, and minor in teaching so you always have a "FALL BACK".. nothing wrong with knowing/not knowing what you wanna do with THE REST OF YOUR LIFE at that age.. like i said i'm almost 22 and i have no fucking clue.. i THINK i know what i wanna do, but realistically, come'on.. who can CBA to know this day'n'age..?  ;o

I'd say go with the being a teacher, if it's what you really want to do and would enjoy most, then do that, enjoying your job is what's most important, fuck being in some job that you hate having to go to every day of your life. But remember, it seems you're just seeing the classroom side of it, remember you have to go home and mark a shit load of work every night, and on weekends a lot of the time, but then again, you would have the highest amount of holiday a year so it's not all that bad.

Tough choice man, I'd say..do what Eric said and major in engineering and minor in teaching. That way you can do both, be happy knowing you could teach if you don't want to follow through with your dads engineering business. BUT, if you do take over the business you could make some serious money and maybe substitute or something. I really don't know but I should start thinking like this as well as i'm going into junior year in highschool :/

Both, collect those degrees like pokemon gym badges B)

You could pay me £1,000,000 annually, I still wouldn't even consider doing a job I didn't enjoy. I pissed my chances of going to uni and getting a £65,000/per year job so that I could train for a (near enough) minimum wage job, simply because I'll enjoy it more. Think about it, you'll be doing it every single day for the next 40 years, get a job that you WANT to wake up for.

I see people on the train at 2AM creating Powerpoint presentations and I just can't imagine myself in that position.

So yeah, a teacher.
