Advent Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 Right, so the fan on my laptop is fucking terrible. My laptop constantly overheats and the fan makes more noise than those fucking vuvuzelas at the world cup. I was previously in foe on my last pure, and I was forced to leave as my laptop just was so unreliable, it often overheated 5minutes into a trip, and it couldnt cope with anything above 5% CPU usage. Getting to the point: Taking my laptop into the shop to get fixed, will cost; £50 to diagnose the problem, and then god knows how much to get the fucker fixed. So I was thinking of just getting a new computer. Heres where I need help: Please could you guys tell me what desktop setup you use, and a good computer that can cope with fairly high CPU usage, and be able to run bots on it pretty much 24/7. Even better would be if you could link me to some good desktop computers, (from a UK site please) for around £350-£400 that will be able to handle multiple programes being open without overheating. Thanks
gfdgfd Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 I had this problem, i now have a fan constantly pointed on my laptop, i no longer have this problem.

Advent Posted July 29, 2010 Author Posted July 29, 2010 I cant build my own, and have no idea what an operating system is xD
VxT Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 I cant build my own, and have no idea what an operating system is xD A Windows Disc & License key.
Advent Posted July 29, 2010 Author Posted July 29, 2010 Yes Ive got those. But Im really just looking for a new computer, the whole package; monitor, keyboard and the actual machine. Please could anybody suggest a good Desktop I could get for around £350 that can cope with high CPU usage?
VxT Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/compaq-presario-cq5305uk-m-desktop-pc-with-monitor-04144058-pdt.html Decent CPU on that one, dual core so pretty good for multi tasking, but integrated graphics, enough for playing RS but you're not going to be able to play real games on anything above bare minimum settings, and even then they'll run like shit. I think you're expecting a bit much for £350 especially if you need everything, like monitor etc.
Advent Posted July 30, 2010 Author Posted July 30, 2010 Was looking at that one earlier, but is it worth the money? Im not looking to play any 'real games' as the only game I play on the computer is RS. So as long as it can cope with RS in HD or something, and can handle as good amount of CPU and not overheat, it should be fine. Any other suggestions though?
Advent Posted July 30, 2010 Author Posted July 30, 2010 Any other suggestions? And sorry for double post
gfdgfd Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 Get more money is the only real suggestion i have ><
Advent Posted July 30, 2010 Author Posted July 30, 2010 How much more money, and what should I buy instead
Zennithh Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 You will probably need a bit more money before you get a good computer, I would pay a computer-ey guy to do a custom build. In the meantime, I think I know how to fix your laptop. In my experience laptop cooling systems need some maintenance after a few years use. I have done these steps twice (for me and a friend) with favorable results on old-ish overheating laptops, but if you are a noob then again I would pay a computer guy to do it. At the very least look up these processes on google. Heat in a laptop: Produced by components > Heatsink(s) > Heat pipe(s) > Grills near the edge > Blown outside by the fan. 1. Remove the covers on the bottom 2. Remove the clump of dust that gathers between the fan and the grills as well as any other dust that looks like it is being disruptive. 3. Replace the thermal grease between the gpu, chipset, and cpu and their respective heatsinks (there will at least be a heatsink for the cpu, maybe for the gpu and chipset). There might also be some thermal paste between the heatpipes and the heatsinks. 4. Put it all back together. Remember to keep track of screws and where everything goes, you might have to remove the fan or other covers to make things more accessible. Ask me if you need help.
Advent Posted July 31, 2010 Author Posted July 31, 2010 Only problem with that is, there isnt like one single cover that I can take off to access the fan. If I wanted to get access to the fan, I would have to completely remove the casing of the laptop. Its a Dell Inspiron 1525 Btw
pked fo sho1 Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 Everyone always underestimates Mac's for gaming and it really makes me mad. When I still played rs I had a macbook pro and stilll have one, they're really nice and I would suggest you buy one. I've never had any problems with it, and you don't have to worry about virus's or anything, anti spyware or any anti "ware" you can think of.

Using a mac for the hardware is forgivable, if you use the OS then I don't like you. It basically encourages user ignorance. Also: Only problem with that is, there isnt like one single cover that I can take off to access the fan. If I wanted to get access to the fan, I would have to completely remove the casing of the laptop. Its a Dell Inspiron 1525 Btw You should be taking this off i'm pretty sure, but I would probably recruit a person who would be a bit more confident doing it: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins1525/en/SM/cpucool.htm#wp1179839 I can see that the fan is separated, just use your own judgment (or recruited persons judgment) and try to remove dust and replace as much thermal paste as you can.
Jimel | Tyson Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 I had this same Problem With My laptop. I got a Vaccum and put it to the vents that blew out air and held it there for a while. pked fo sho1 Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Oops failed quoting you there sorry for double post. @Zennithh, The OS is flawless so I'm not really sure where you're going with that comment. @Shut up kid, Yes, that was really the intelligent, well thought out answer I was searching for.
carlos|yobecky Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 buddy, just get a fan instaled in ur laptop, i had that problem also.

That is a very bold claim sir. In my experience (and from my reading) mac software is noticeably more restrictive and simplified than windows (which is in turn more limited and simplified than linux and other similar OS'). Using apple software is OK if you are someone who likes to use computers but not learn about them, but IMO we use them enough to justify complicating things for ourselves and learning in the process.
HiBrid Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 get a gateway laptop. you can bot over night and that shit still works
