Adjured Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 I bought a new computer a couple months ago since I bought it it always runs very loudly like a fan, but it has never gone above 25% CPU CPU: http://www.dell.com/us/en/home/desktops/studio-xps-9100/pd.aspx?refid=studio-xps-9100&s=dhs&cs=19&ST=studio%20xps%209000&dgc=ST&cid=56742&lid=1476396&acd=52183,8,0,85566325,768359692,1283976239,,25736544,5003083701
Lip Job Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 I had a computer that ran that loud from the beginning maybe its the build?
VxT Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 Just because your CPU isn't being stressed much, doesn't mean it isn't getting hot, which makes the fans spin faster to keep it at a suitable temp. http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html Download that, check your CPUs temperature. Having a quick look it should be around 30 - 40C at idle (Low usage, not playing game etc.) and anything over 70C under load (games etc.) isn't good for it and you should get it sorted (buy a better cooler). If you want to get your CPU to run at 100% for testing purposes you can DL a free program called Prime95 which people use to stresstest, mainly when overclocking. Also, I'm guessing the 3.7 rating is due to bad graphics, if so you made a mistake buying that PC if you want to do anything more than internet browse/playing RS. I guess you could upgrade it if you know what you're doing. I might be wrong and the 3.7 is from something else or a mistake as that rating system isn't brilliant.
Adjured Posted September 8, 2010 Author Posted September 8, 2010 I just ran the test and... Which judging by your post, is way overheated. I was wonder if you could guide me or check it out more sometime? Thanks.
Eric Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 DUDE, you're gettin a DELL! did anyone else just nostalgia?
VxT Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 I just ran the test and... Which judging by your post, is way overheated. I was wonder if you could guide me or check it out more sometime? Thanks. If you know what you're doing with PCs I'd suggest taking the heatsink off and re-installing it incase it wasn't done properly first, or is possibly faulty. Tbh there isn't all that much you can do without taking it apart now so if you're not sure how to I'd find someone who can, or take it back to Dell. Don't fuck around with it if you don't know what you're doing is the #1 advice.
Ow 3 Hit Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 You fucked up your computer's cooler how? Buy a new cooler for it, or call Dell's support team.
Adjured Posted September 9, 2010 Author Posted September 9, 2010 I have never touched the inside of my computer, gonna contact Dell Support later, thanks.
