computer ram question

Ok, so i got windows xp on my computer and my ram only shows 3gbs. I have 6gb of ram however, so im only using half which is disappointing. So how can i use all 6gbs? I'll lock when someone figures it out. Thanks~  <3

i upgraded from a athlon dual core to an i7 quad and i bought a new mobo, ram, psu, and case to go with it. i got 3 sticks of 2gb triple channel ram, but it only shows 3gb under my computer properties.

Could it possibly be that it uses it and doesn't show, or the fact that I'm still using windows xp service pack 3

shit i meant windows 7 fuck, just downloaded the wrong thing there goes 10mins of my life
