Do you apologise to your animal?

Say you accidentally step on their paw etc, and they jump up and make a whine as if to say 'OUCH CHARLIE', do you just leave them to bear it, or do you do it like i do and stroke them and say 'Sorry mate', even though he doesn't know what sorry means. o.o

of course i say sorry, and even if they dont know what it means, they know that you are talking in a non threatoning manner, and petting them nicely. they know that it was unintentional.

I always say sorry lol... just first reaction because it makes me feel bad if i just look at them sobbing.

Apparently cats know more than you think. When you yawn it lets them know you're like friendly and stuff. Idk if it's true but if I do step on my cat I say sorry and stroke it, and if I want to grab it to put it outside or something if it's annoying me, if I pretend to yawn it sometimes comes to me lol.
