Three guys have $10 each. They see a used TV for sale at $30 and decide to buy it.

They pay and leave the store.

At that point the store manager tells the assistant that he had reduced the TV to $25 and sent him after the 3 guys with 5 $1 bills to give them.

The assistant puts $2 in his pocket and gives the 3 guys $1 each.

So - the guys have spent $9 each....

...3 x 9 = 27

...plus the two in his pocket =.................

You're counting it wrong, eventually they paid for the $25 so you have to count : 3 x 9 = 27  -->  27 - 2 in his pocket is = 25

Edit: What's wrong with your theory is that they pay a total of 27 if you count the tv and the money the guy put in his pocket together, 27/3 = 9  --> then they have $3 back so  27+3 = 30

The theory is wrong, Jef summed it up, it's not $27 paid for the tele, $2 pocketed and $1 missing, it's $27 paid for the tele INCLUDING the $2 pocketed, and then the $3 they have left over, which adds up to $30, yeah it is a mindfuck, your mind leads you to believe that it's right because the numbers add up, but when you really think

The till has $25 from the transaction

The shopworker has $2

The boys have $3

You realise it's wrong.

if they got 3 dollars back, they paid 9 dollars and 33 cents for the tv, not 9 dollars.

the real question here is.. whos house is the tv going to stay at :O
