Jim Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 I understand musical taste is based upon opinion, and I fully accept that, however, I hate artists being wrongly percieved into genres they don't belong to. This rant is mainly aimed at metal, rap and grime which 'crosses over' with pop music. I'm not much of a fan of rock music, of any kind. However, there are a handful of metal bands I like, so when music comes into convosation and some says they like metal, I think 'Ah cool, maybe they like Morbid Angel', but no, it's always Green Day, Bullet for my Valentine or some other NON-METAL band. Same for grime, the amount of girls who claim they like grime because they like Chipmunk, N-Dubz, Fugative or Cher Lloyd is disgusting. It's fucking pop music, a London accent and a tracksuit does NOT make it grime, stop being a cunt. We all know the routine with hip-hop, with the likes of Soulja Boy, Nikki Minaj, Usher and Ne-yo who always get wrongly called hip-hop because they're black with a bit of edgy, risque attitude. As for RnB, there is no longer such a thing as far as I'm now concerned, it's just pop. Edit: Derp, wrong section.
plex Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 well said Jim, theres so few people in my area that music taste differs from pop or rap. quite depressing
Blitz Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 My iTunes does that. Linkin Park - Metal LOLWAT Rock is wrongly genre'd all the time. For instance, i listen to METALlica, people are like 'lol rock nerd'. Oh btw Jim, fb inbox me when you read this mang.
Ikz Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 pop some bottles in the ice i dont think you're feelin so fly
Cal Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 Why u think i went mental at someone a week or so ago? winds me up too
1nc0mp4r4bl3 Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 I also hate it. I always used to listen to pop and stuff cause I was never really interested in music, but since a few years I really started to like it. Now I daily listen to Avenged Sevenfold, which has no genre, because it is like everything, like rock/metal/alternative/country/acoustic/like everything. People keep saying stuff like: hell no, fuck scream or fuck emo and stuff. Nowadays like everyone listens to rap-crap/r/b/hardstyle crap....Ya know.
Steroids Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 people like n dubz / chipmunks OLD music could be called grime, they was as shit then as they are now in most cases though.
Eric Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 this is a topic, i like.. genre's are shit, unless you know how to place an artists into it.. example: Between the Buried and Me & The Faceless ARE NOT METAL, They're Technical/Progressive/Melodic(metal) people get metal genre's wrong almost 90% of the time, and its solely based on the fact that they're all fucking morons.. <3
Smush Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 Don't care. I don't believe in genres. Any music I listen to falls into three categories. 1) Awesome. 2) Indifferent 3) Sucks Those are my genres since I listen to all types of music. Classical to Rock to Pop.
Lip Job Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 Kids my age(15) don't have educated musical pallets so they only like mainstream/mtv/bubblegum-fairy shit. :(
Berniej Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 When people ask if I listen to Rap I always say.. 'Nah man, I listen to Hiphop'. 'Not that mainstream bullshit you see on tv'. I like this cat who talks about that, because somebody actually said ( an artist) that nobody wants to listen to intelligent rap. They just want the bubblegum rap.

Exactly what i say/feel, but even i admit every now & then theres a good "mainstream" song :p
I C0NN0R I Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 I havn't heard a good song on radio in a loooong time. as for itunes, lol. Mine says Underoath is punk rock. That's what you get from limewire i guess 0_o dumbasses who can't name genres.
gfdgfd Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 Who cares about genres tbh, and you say when a kid says 'metal' you think he means like Morbidly Obese Angel, but there are hundreds of sub-genres within metal, so not necessarily also who cares about metal it's just a guy playing a guitar for 10 minutes.
Truth Shine Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 Truly agree. Imo cant like genres, only can like certain artists...
Mikey` Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 Agreed, although i honestly could care less what a song or band's "genre" is. If i like it i like it, and if someone bashes me for it idc.

But if you watch like the rap or the 'alternative' music then it's a bigger percentage that I like. They just don't play much rap on tv here, mostly chick music lol. I can like Drake songs, Eminem, some Rihanna's even. Most of her songs annoy the crap outta me tho..

Benny The Leak LMAO Posted December 3, 2010 Posted December 3, 2010 I just listen to everything except like niqqa beats (actual rap like Biggie Smalls) because I'm just so sick of finding a Genre I like and then it turns out when I youtube/google search other bands in the same genre its like completely different and sounds like assfuck

k1dstrenqth Posted December 3, 2010 Posted December 3, 2010 Meh, if it sounds good theres no point caring about the genre.
