Well, I can't really post other music, cause I don't really got the time. I also don't know many other good Rock/Metal bands that I like. The A7X topic was obviously a troll.

The only bands I really listen to are:

A7X.

Three Days Grace.

Bullet For My Valentine.

VersaEmerge.

Foo Fighters.

I pretty much posted all the songs I like by the bands above.

I am not trying to be defensive, even though I am being defensive.

The A7X topic can still be a legitimate idea. The trolling's died down a lot now.

I can post all day in this topic... I listen to more than 5 bands so...

You just posted this in the A7X topic :P I wanted to say something in there but I thought I'd leave that alone and let it become a fan topic.

Here however... (I only watched the 15 minute long video, that's what this is based off)

You cannot tell me he is a good vocalist. He is seriously going to permanantly damage his throat. Guttering vocals is not produced from the throat like he does, it's produced from the diaphragm. True story: I went to a gig, A7X were also playing and halfway through the first song MShadows announces he can't continue as his throat hurts. Well I was like "no fucking shit." The singing is flat all the way, both him and the backing singer. terribly flat.

The guitar work is almost flawless throughout :) Atleast he maintains his guitar standards live so well done him. There's actually quite a few melodic lines he does and some get relatively complicated, I'm more impressed than I thought I would be.

The drums weren't Rev. He played pretty much everything correctly but he just doesn't have that feel and dynamic as the Rev. The Rev really was excellent. Also, he doesn't use the Rev's snare. His drum solo, was very uninspiring to say the least. It's just a series of singles over singles, i.e. he hits the snare with his left then right then right foot, left foot. Yes, it sounds fast and it looks cool but it isn't very technically aweinspiring.

I love how he refered to A7X as "rock music" not "metal". That is accurate.

Those pits were shit. When they went to the back of the crowd half the people were just standing there. This, is a pit.

Aparently, the guy in the middle died. LOL, daft cunt.

That was a pretty good post. I never saw a circle pit like that before and I have only been to two concerts yet, so it was pretty cool to see those pits. I live in the Netherlands, so that's why I haven't been to many concerts yet. I think the new drummer is pretty good, yes, he's young and he still has a lot to learn, but I still think he's very good.

I especially love Avenged Sevenfold because of the vocals, you can either like it, or hate it. So I understand you pretty well.

I also love the guitar solos and riffs etcetera.

Oh, I meant the CIRCLEpit from the last video at minute 4:50 to the end or something btw.

Yeah, The Dream Theater vocals are also a bit love or hate which is what puts a lot of people off them.

That wall of deathis one of the most notorious posh pits ever. Slayer, Napalm Death, Lamb Of God and DevilDriver seem to get the best pits.

Yeah. Well, I have never seen a circlepit before :p I don't like those walls of deaths or something though, a bunch of aggressive people running around   It looks like it is pretty dangerous and I don't want to be in one of those pits, but it looks cool ;)

PS: 5 more days until Pinkpop - A7X! EXCITED :D

I didn't listen to the end, I had to turn it off when the vocals came in. Sorry, but I will do this time.

The chords at the beginning are done on piano. They're only power chords, but the orchestration gives a soothing dynamic were as when power chords are played on guitar they're always aggressive. These are played in the higher register, an octave above middle C so they sound more pleasent. Using pleasent chords is a great way to create a good song, personally I'd have added some extensions to these chords just to add more jazz flavour.

The song is actually written in 7/4 rather than the standard 4/4 they normally use. Again, it's different, it sounds slightly off because it either feels 3 beats longer or 1 shorter than standard.

It's not too bad a song, but omg vocals are nasty.

constrasting that: Demons. written in 4/4. Very generic. A nice riff which is playted higher but it isn't anything different to any other a7x song.

i'm all a7xed out for today... cba analysing anymore.

Hmmm, what do you mean by 4/4 and 7/4 etc?

Well yeah, you either like Matt or hate his voice. Atleast you like the unstrumental work a little bit.

I'll try and post some music by Three Days Grace or something.

4/4 and 7/4 are time signatures.

The number beneath the slash indicates what fraction of time the bar is split up into. A whole note is 4 beats. This is known as a semibreeve, 1/1. When the note is split by durations of 2 beats it's called a minum, 1/2. A quarter of a note would be a crotchet, 1/4. These can keep on being divided by 2 and each time the notes follow each other faster. (1/8; quaver, 1/16; semi-quaver, 1/32 semi-demi-quaver etc)

The number above the slash indicates how many of these notes will be played in each bar, a section of music (each iteration of a guitar riff is generally one bar). So 7/4 there would be 7 crotchets or quarter notes in that bar, totalling 7 beats. 4/4 is generally more common as it equals a full whole note which our brains understand easier.

In progressive rock music often you see a whole host of different time signatures.

Example:

H7jikeIyKaE

It's so complex and clever and brilliant and that is why I prefer progressive and technical metal over mainstream metal bands.

That's alot of information, thanks :)

There is only one thing I can't agree with, I don't think A7X is a mainstream band, because the majority of people listen to Rap, House, etcetera (In my country). Rock and Metal aren't very popular in my country:(

But Rock and Metal are popular. Everywhere, it's just not as big. If you should say to anybody listening to rap or hip hop or pop, "Have you heard of metal?" They'd probably say yes.

Now, when you're into that genre of submetal you discover that there are even more subgenre's that you ever expected. Bands like A7X, Bullet for my Valentine, Disturbed, Linkin Park and now Rage Against the Machine are in the public eye. I'd say about 80% of people who have never listened to metal in their life would tell you they'd at least heard of and possibly listened to a few songs by these. It's the mainstream of metal.

If I said to somebody on the street, "Hey, who do you prefer All Shall Perish, Heaven Shall Burn or Psycroptic?" I'd estimate about 5% of people will have heard of them before.

So who do you prefer and have you heard of them before?
