Mike (0BR) Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 On bodybuilding forums, there was an easy mathematical question that sooo many idiots got wrong. 48 / 2(9+3) What's your answer? I have mine and I know it's correct.
PkraNger|Ahrim Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 It can't be 288.. 48 is divided by the whole quotient
Ollie Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 It's 2 Brackets Indices Division Multiplication Addition Subtraction - BIDMAS You do the bracket first: (9+3) which is 12, then multiply that by the 2, so 24 as the denominator, then you divide 48 by the 24, giving 2 I'm doing Maths at Uni next year, don't you dare tell me i'm wrong Or i'll cry
li oo0oo il Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 288 :p? just 48/2=24 9+3=12 24*12= 288 not sure plz tell me if i'm wrong

Acclaimed|Jordan Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 Read the WHOLE thing then apply it. http://math.about.com/library/weekly/aa040502a.htm TBH I'm fucking stumped. Google says the answer is 288 but if you look at it this way: 48 --- = 2 2(9+3)
ya im chase Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 P E M D A S parenthesis first. then exponent. then mutliply/divide/then add/subtract. its 2.
Jared Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 288. you do what in the brackets first and it comes to 12. then you divide 48 by 2 which makes it 24. then multiply 24 by 12 and it comes out to 288.

Dan| High Rating Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 if your question is 48 ---- 2(9+3) then it = 2
darn its him Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 no it's 288. 48 / 2 (9+3) 48 / 2 * (12) then you just work from left to right. 48/2 = 24 24 * 12 = 288
