On bodybuilding forums, there was an easy mathematical question that sooo many idiots got wrong.

48 / 2(9+3)

What's your answer? I have mine and I know it's correct.

It can't be 288..

48 is divided by the whole quotient

It's 2

Brackets Indices Division Multiplication Addition Subtraction - BIDMAS

You do the bracket first: (9+3) which is 12, then multiply that by the 2, so 24 as the denominator, then you divide 48 by the 24, giving 2

I'm doing Maths at Uni next year, don't you dare tell me i'm wrong

Or i'll cry

You're probably doing (48/2)(9+3)

288. you do what in the brackets first and it comes to 12. then you divide 48 by 2 which makes it 24. then multiply 24 by 12 and it comes out to 288.

48/2(9+3)

48/2(12)

24(12)

288

OR

48/2(9+3)

48/2(12)

48/24

2

One of these two imo

if your question is 48

                            ----

                            2(9+3) then it = 2

no it's 288.

48 / 2 (9+3)

48 / 2 * (12)

then you just work from left to right.

48/2 = 24

24 * 12 = 288
