I have a mac too and realised the SK beta is a broken heap of crap.

click "chat now", then under the "IRC" dropdown select swiftirc obviously, then just choose a username and channel. You'll have to re-register you're name again i think, or re-ID it, also you have to do like /NS id password, every time you go on. Still it isn't hard/time consuming.
