The raw, often-offensive "Family Guy" animated series is going online with a free, Web-browser-based game.

Fans of the show can design a character in "Family Guy Online" in the show's graphic style and then start exploring a virtual Quahog, where they can play around with characters from the show and team up with other players to complete adventures. Fox, which announced the game today, says the digital environment includes some classic Quahog locations, including Spooner Street, where the Griffins live; the Drunken Clam, the bar where they booze it up; and Lake Quahog.

The TV show’s writers are part of the team making the game, and Fox promises "an authentic 'Family Guy' game play experience featuring the show’s signature characters, dialogue and storylines." So in all likelihood, it will be as crass and disgusting as the show. Man, I hope that elderly perverted old man character from the show isn't in the game. He is so creepy...

I'd love to add some details about the character creation process, but I have yet to get the confirmation e-mail from setting up an account. If and when it arrives -- no, it is not in the spam filter -- I will offer an update.
