No they're not always, but there's a lot of events that use the same muscle groups and it's just a different object to be lifting. Not to mention a lot of the powerlifters that wish to succeed build themselves replica events so that they can use them to specificly train.

Thats what I meant training with weights is different to using the atlas stones etc.
