Fatigue/Exhaustion

3/4 through my workout today I became extremely light headed and felt feint, had to go sit down on a bench and left the gym early. (n)

This hasn't happened to me before until today.  Nothing was different; same amount of meals before workout, same routine as 4 days ago for back.  But it worries me.

Past month I've been going to the gym an average of 4-5 times a week cycling through a 4 day routine.  Usually its been 2 on, 1 off, 3 on 1 off.  76.7ish to 81.2 kilos (not the best of gains) during the past 45ish odd days.  Maybe I've been overdoing it and my body just needs a break? Or I should possibly switch to a 4 day split.  I'm not taking any glutamine, casien or creatine, most of my intake is food.

The other possibility is lack of sleep.  With 2-3 early 6:30am uni starts on some days I've been getting 5.5-6 hours of sleep while other days I'll get up to 8.  Maybe this finally caught up with me?

I might be overreacting but I hate missing gym sessions, even on my off days I do an abs routine.  I think I could be overdoing it and not allowing myself enough rest but I do see quite a few people run on a 5 day split and cope with it. (Most of these people are pros though )

Read some articles/threads on matter via BB/M&S and most of the responses were to take 4-7 days off the gym while still eating to routine and getting as much sleep as possible.

Could of just been one of those days where my body didn't agree with me.  Anyone experienced a day or workout similar to this? and am I overacting to the max?

I experienced this once a while back, but that was because i was doing 2 workouts in 1.

I'm no expert really but i always aim for 8-10+ hours sleep every night, aswell as short naps throughout the day to aid recovery.

naps throughout the day lol wish i could sleep during day. prolly just over exertion, if u have a headache to go with it

personally, for me.

`i would take power naps/naps during the afternoon prior to my gym sess. i dont wake up to an alarm, i wake up when my body tells me im ready.

`take a break just for a few days

`increase carbs intake prior to training

`have a look at supplementation

i know what you mean man lol. usually i get that feeling when i'm dehydrated/haven't had enough sleep or haven't eaten much before the gym. could be any of these reasons or a mixture of all 3.

could even potentially be overtraining. if that's the case just give it a week off or go back when you feel like you can put 100% back in to it.

^ its just dehydration from overexertion

Nah I'm not hypoglycemic, I've been training for just about 7 months now and this is the first occurrence, read the symptoms on forums/sites I'm pretty sure I'm clear.

I had dinner an hour before gym, chicken and couscous and around 4 meals before that since waking up. Drank around 5 litres of water today.

I'm putting it down to sleep and over training since now thinking about it I've slept around 6 hours every night the past 4 nights going to bed at 3:30am streaming movies,  used to sleeping at 12~ so I fucked myself there. .  Never really taken sleep seriously but I'm gonna take a few days off gym, sleep and eat so I can hit up gym again before the weekend.

I love power naps during the afternoon. Like right now it's 3 PM and going to get my hour of nap time before I hit my shoulders. You might be overtraining or not getting enough nutrition/sleep.

Got 8 hours sleep last night, woke up to an alarm cause I had to go into work.  Still feeling drained/tired from last nights gym.  Probably sleep.

I've experienced these sudden headaches multiple times throughout my year of working out. While I thought the reason was not eating as much, or lack of sleep, it just turned out to be something simple; taking a break.

While it may seem rather obvious that you need to take days off working out, the actual reason that most people receive these sudden headaches (even though they are eating correctly, sleeping and staying hydrated) is because they don't allow themselves a FULL WEEK off from working out, not just the off days. Once I learned that, those sudden headaches have left me.

Here's what I mean in short:

Workout for a month (with off days as your workout allows it) & after the month take the first week off in the next month. Then go for another month & take the 2nd week off in the next month. Repeat for as long as you workout.

Trust me when I say this does wonders for your body & a week of eating the same way won't gain too much weight (if any at all) and you won't lose much muscle during the process as well.

Cheers.

I've gotten that feeling before. It seems like you are pretty consistent with your diet and water intake. Getting a full 8 hours of sleep at night is more beneficial than making up for it with naps. Like the last guy said, you should take a rest week once every month or two. You can still do abs and some cardio, just give your body a small break from heavy lifting.
