Most shemales are men that feel that they belong in a females body. Shemales is non-specific and can refer to an a male that dresses up as a female or a female(?) that was once a male, but has been operated on. Both categories usually take hormone supplements; which is how I would probably distinguish between a transvestite (dressing up) and a shemale (living the lifestyle). Shemales refer to themselves as transgender or transexual. Been to Thailand. Almost impossible to tell the difference between the shemales and the she's. Chances are though, if they come onto you, they are shemales.
