Idiot_Wasabi Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 I started working out about a week ago and was just wondering whats the best way to recover after a workout, I can deal with any soreness and stiffness as I expected, I just wanted to know what's the best way to make sure I'm ready for the next gym sesh (which is every 2nd day pretty much) and prevent myself from any long term harm. :) thanks. Also should I be using protein shakes or anything this early or wait a bit?
Tris Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 If you're just starting to work out and are working out every second day that means you're doing a 4 day split? (Just to confirm one off ,one on throughout the week). You may feel a bit store and stiff since you've just started out but your body will ease into it, a day of rest in between workouts should be enough recovery time as long as you're hitting a different muscle group each work out. You could look into glut-amine to aid recovery but I don't think its needed. Protein shakes are fine to take early on however I'd get the food side of things down pact before using supplements, work out how much protein you need to intake, how many carbs and how much healthy fat you need. Whether you're bulking or cutting you're macro nutrients make up a lot of your goals. Read articles on bodybuilding.com and muscleandstrength.com, also read the stickies here.
gfdgfd Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 get some protein in you post workout and get a good night's sleep, also make sure you get a good amount of protein even on rest days since your muscles will still be recovering. Protein shakes - can't hurt to get them but as Tris said, make sure you get the diet sorted and don't just rely on supplements
Native2 Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 Take a sauna after, that usually helps me! and if your still sore get a heating pack or something, just gotta relax!
Tom (Rendition) Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 Do body part splits so that you are giving each body part a good rest before they next get worked out. Make sure you are getting enough protein and that's all you really need. There are other supplements you can buy which are supposed to aid recovery, but as a beginner that is all you need to know.
Smush Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 Soreness = Refuel, Rest, and Stretch. Pretty much it. And don't be afraid to back to the gym while still being sore, your body will eventually get used to it.
