Chris Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 Alrighty some 1on1 heart2heart shit because problems written out resolve themselves faster than tormenting yourself in the head. In about 3 weeks time I have my AS modules to redo ( complex story, not redoing due to failure, more due to expulsion followed by change in exam board ) . I always find it hard to revise for exams wether it be due to arrogance of knowing I can do well without too much effort to simple lack of motivation. However this year it is harder than ever and i'll explain why with a little backdrop story. This year I've earned through FOREX/stocks and RS a large sum of money at any age, but at age 18 (19 as of yesterday) over 4 times minimum wage. The college I attend now is far inferior to the school i got kicked out of, so to drag myself 90 minutes there and 90 minutes back to endure the lessons surrounded by not a single native English speaking person, is demotivating to say the least. I have currently have 1 friend due to the nature of all my other m8s going off to uni. This leaves me isolated 80% of the time, and with the isolation breeds negativity. Sad as it may seem the best interactions I have day to day is talking with people via TS due to the common addiction. I know this is off topic so I will try and stay away from RS as much as possible, however as much as you may not want to talk or think about it, these are rs related forums by which I mean almost all users have at one point or another played RS to a certain degree verging on excess. Recently after speaking with walli about it, I do envy what he has done of late, however I find it hard to follow suite. I know what I SHOULD do. I know what MUST be done. However whenever I try it drags me back. Its hard to extinguish the one stable and enjoyable thing in your life, when the alternatives are long term and seemingly unreachable. This becomes even harder when large amounts of money are thrown into the equation, well when your somebody like me who links cash-flow with success and positivity. You can say what you like, and probably thought the same as you are now before I started handling cash. When numbers on a screen turn into a physical quantity you can feel it is the most amazing feeling. Even months down the line whenever I get a largish payment and the banker is counting out the notes I have to bite my tongue to stop a massive beaming grin appearing on my face and hence looking like a mug. I'm digressing... I'm sorry if this came across arrogant or boastful, it wasn't meant in either way, simply as a way to get you inside my head. Now back to the problem at hand in terms of motivation. It is killing me inside to get off of Rs and study for January. It's not simply the boredom, its also the lack of point it may have on my future. Why subject myself to more misery during my break? Is the long term benefit of what i'm doing now going to seriously alter my future? Is it worth still attending college; Doing A-levels? Going to uni? HA anyways i feel better after my lil rant. Hopefully you enjoyed learning a little bit more about me if you even read any of it. I know there's a lot to consider when answering but what is your opinion? What would you do? What motivates you?
Ikz Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 I am motivated by everything I cannot yet accomplish. Yes you should go to college, not only is it a challenge, but it will also motivate you to go onward after that to achieve better things. Get motivated by what you don't have yet, and force your body to achieve such thing and utilize everything you have until you reach that goal, that's where I am in life, giving my all to earn what I believe is the best possible future for me. It's not enough for me to do good, I have to do better than other people because that's my goal, to simply be the best at what I do. I'm motivated by my failure to keep trying until I succeed, everything is a motivator really, you just have to find one that sticks.

Jon Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 Go into college and take very broad courses that you find interesting. Take some computer courses, business, engineering. If you're not into studying and school, try taking on a trade, though that would require more schooling as well. I never knew what I wanted to know, and still don't know. I'm taking an accounting major, which I honestly think I'm only doing because my dad can hire when I'm done uni and I can live a life of over 100k a year. Honestly dude, you're going to be working for the next 40+ years of your life, make sure you enjoy it. I barely know you, let alone know your interests, but if you do enjoy working with computers and keeping to yourself than look into jobs like that. Honestly as much as a load of bull shit they can be, try some surveys that isolate your intrests and such. Though question to you, are you looking to have a high paying job, putting in lot's of hours, or what kind of life are you looking for. The future motivates me. Knowing that there is good to come.
vult Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 people motivate me by showing me a glimpse of their cock
Dravid Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 Obviously school is a long term benefit, even though u have made a decent amount of money it is much wiser to go to school and earn a more respectable and reliable source of money.
Steroids Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 runescape isn't heroin, its a fucking game on the internet, i really don't see what all this constant "cant quit" shit is. just do average in ur a-levels so you can get into an average uni. as i assume you've had such a shit life in terms of social interaction, uni should make you as a person if you actually make the effort to enjoy yourself whilst you're there. also start going gym properly for the next year+ before uni and i guarantee your confidence will sky rocket.
gfdgfd Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 Yeah it's defo worth finishing the A levels and going to uni, it's only a few months then you can go back to making money through rs, uni will be the best time of your life, wish i'd gone as for motivation, I don't really find myself needing it :S i'm a very optimistic person

For once i have to agree with this. Although you're making a shit ton by playing RS and everything, not socializing and everything will just make you want to stay inside even more when you're not making money etc, like me i'm exactly the same, i haven't left my house in like 2 months cos i hate everyone, feel like everyone's out to get me, i'm not motivated at all, and i'm not even making money, i'm just playing games, which i love to do, weird in many peoples eyes but if i'm enjoying it, i don't see the problem. However that is one argument, i have to admit, i'm one of the saddest cunts out there, but i'm not motivated at all to even leave my house, i dropped out of college cos of it, but really, you should just take Steroids' advice.

Jon Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 If you go to a college that you don't know anyone from your past or very few, either way it's a new beginning. You can be whoever you want, make up whatever stories. Not saying you need to be fake, but you can venture out.
Bullet Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 Going to uni is the best thing i've done in my life. Only been there 3 months and some of the stuff i've done and the people i've met have been amazing. If i were you i would sell all your GP, items, accounts etc. That'll get you quite literally bank irl. Then your sorted if you decide to go uni after college. Seriously though if your finding you've become addicted and you have no motivation to do anything apart from play games just give it up, you'll find you have alot more spare time so you will do anything you can to get out the house to socialise and meet new people.

I think that's the root of the problem. You give up gaming which conquered like 90% of your time. So now you have the vast majority of your day with nothing to do. Yes there are obviously things to fill up the time (Gym, Friends, TV, Ect..) but most people can't sit at the gym for over 3 hours, or hang with friends all the time. You'll find yourself wanting to go back. It's healthy to have a hobby or a couple to pass the time, so you have to find a permanent thing to fill up that time.
Paxman Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 way I see it, couple more years and you've got a job sounds much better than flunking everything now cause' you couldn't be bothered and living the rest of your life the hard way with a less than adequate job.
Lat Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 do whatever makes you happy. at the end of the day, it's your life, live it however the fuck you want.

Yes but if you can't play with moderation then it will end up taking all your time up.
5pork Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 I would also say go for subjects that interest you, I person did my A levels in Biology, Psychology and Accounts. I chose Psychology and Biology because I've always been interested in The criminolgy / forensic science side of Law, I most likely got this from an early age watching programs like Csi:Miami and Psychology was by far the most interesting "lessons" I've had in my life, It was one of the first things in my life i ever struggled with and was so rewarding to learn the things I did. If you choose to carry on after as levels I would say only continue with subjects that really interest you and you would love to use in life, don't just do the obvious ones like most people do like media, they're boring as hell and you learn nothing over a 2 year period. Best of luck, I hope you make the right choice.
Env Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 If you're as hooked on this game as you say you are then there is no halfway. Addicts don't know moderation. Quit cold turkey. It's the only way.
