whats all this rs2006.net business? i've only heard of it recently and i'm wondering if its real or just a fake thing meant to get ur info or something. i'd love to play 2006 rs again but just cant trust anything these days. so is it safe/worth the time etc?

ya its real beta is meant to be out next month for people who have donated

it's going to be how runescape was up until may (?) 2006 and it's not a private server it's a complete remake

The team working on it is still preparing everything for the alpha/beta/whatever, and have been for some time. Apparently it isn't going to be like the vast majority of private servers with a bazillion cheats, they are working on making it 100% like Rs of '06(Quests, content, and all). They even had a poll that was going to determine the experience rate and the winner was 1x...shows you how much supporters and developers want to get as close to the real feeling of Rs in that time as possible.

It's even approved by Norton. Not saying 100% it's safe, but this looks promising.
