DeltaPapa Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 Why is it when i do my chest exercises - Convergent lever bench press - Incline bench press with smith machine - Bench press with machine It feels like my arms are getting worked and not my chest? Im using machines/equipment for all of them, so my form cant be that bad as it kinda makes you do the form. When i sit on the bench, i sit so the bar is inline with my nipples Am i doing something wrong? Thanks for replies.
Triko Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 the closer ur grip the more u use ur tri's also doubt u will make any gains from just using machines db/bb is the way to go wanahunuluge btw

Ollie Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 Dumbbells r the way to go mate Especially for chest..
antO Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 It feels like my arms are getting worked and not my chest? how far is your grip? does your elbows point in or out as you perform the movement?
konka Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 do you do flies as well? i personally do dumb bell flies, cable cross overs and then assisted on a machine for a more isolated exercise can definitely feel it in everything chest-wise i do
DeltaPapa Posted March 28, 2012 Author Posted March 28, 2012 Nah my elbows stay 90degrees to my body and my grip is wide, dont think i can go much wider. Il try db/bb bench stuff next week. And yeh i do and i have the same problem unless i use the pec dec
Kody Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 (edited) alright before you worry about where your arms are positioned you need to make yourself a promise that you're gonna leave the machines alone. i hate smith machines because gym rats are posted up on that thing thinkin they are lifting weight. sounds to me like your form is shit. ass needs to be on bench, legs tucked back. an arch between your lower back and upper back. shoulders squeezed back together against the bench. if you do all of this it will be next to impossible to not use your chest. if you need help with form i can have a friend record me and i'll link you.
