Sean`` Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 Goalkeepers: Joe Hart (Man City), Rob Green (West Ham), John Ruddy (Norwich) Defenders: Glen Johnson (Liverpool), Phil Jones (Man United), John Terry (Chelsea), Joleon Lescott (Man City), Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Ashley Cole (Chelsea), Leighton Baines (Everton) Midfielders: Theo Walcott (Arsenal), Stewart Downing (Liverpool), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Arsenal), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Gareth Barry (Man City), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), Scott Parker (Tottenham), Ashley Young (Man United), James Milner (Man City) Forwards: Wayne Rooney (Man United), Danny Welbeck (Man United), Andy Carroll (Liverpool), Jermain Defoe (Tottenham) Standby players: Jack Butland (Birmingham City), Phil Jagielka (Everton), Jordan Henderson (Liverpool), Adam Johnson (Manchester City), Daniel Sturridge (Chelsea). Ferdinand not included, not a great shock as he can't play a game every week nevermind every 4 days. Also would of been interesting to see if he would of lined up with Terry. Richards- Very suprised he's not included due to Kyle Walker being injured, means we only have 1 right back, although Jones can play there too. Downing- Big shock he's in there for me, useless all season 0 goals 0 assists, would of preferred Lennon as he offers something with his pace- plays like Walcott but I prefer him tbh. 4 Strikers- Bit of an issue as we effectively have 3 for the group stage with Rooney being out for 2 matches. Carroll had good form at the end of the season, would be effective as long as we can get balls into the box for him which may be a reason he didn't take Lennon as his crossing isn't that great. Welbeck's been a good player for United this season kept both Hernandez and Berbatov out of the team, made a good partnership with Rooney, which could be effective in the later stages of the tournament. He scored a few goals and is again good in the air, also a fast player so we'll be strong on the counter attack. Defoe's had limited opportunities this season although when he has played he's scored. Also got a hattrick in the qualifiers to get to the Euros. The only striker apart from Rooney to have been to major tournaments, I personally like him I think he's a solid goalscorer and will be used as a sub to come on in the last 15mins and try get a goal back/1 more if we need it. Maybe should of taken another striker- Bent has been injured all season and hasn't played any matches, Sturridge hasn't played as much since Chelsea's new boss has come in, also he's a selfish player in my eyes, he'd try to act like Ronaldo and do a few step overs and it didn't come off when he could just pass the ball. Captain- For me it's got to be Gerrard, thought he did well in South Africa unlike the rest of the team bar Ashley Cole who was solid as always. Been rumours Joe Hart might get it but I think for this tournament it's got to be Gerrard.
DeltaPapa Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 Such a fail squad imo. I reckon Ferdinand and King should of been called up. Same with Micah Richards. Midfield, Lennon should have been called up. His pace and skill tears defences up. Forwards: Not much your can do there. But Peter crouch should of definatly been called up.
DeltaPapa Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 Goalkeepers aswell. If hart gets injured we are fucked. Should of picked Robinson or try to get Friedal out of international retirement
Sean`` Posted May 16, 2012 Author Posted May 16, 2012 Goalkeepers aswell. If hart gets injured we are fucked. Should of picked Robinson or try to get Friedal out of international retirement Friedal's American lmao and Robinson retired when Capello didn't put him in a squad, although I think Robinson is the 2nd best keeper we have. We can't take both Rio + King due to them both not being able to play every week. In the Euros a games every 4 days.
DeltaPapa Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 King can play every 4 games with the right conditioning. He was going to do that with the world cup. and a stat: 'Adam Johnson PL stats: 26 apps, 6 goals. Andy Carroll & Stewart Downing combined stats: 71 apps, 4 goals
