Vacation in Thailand

Recommended Posts

So me and some friends have planned a trip to Thailand for 3 weeks (May1st to 21st) and I was wondering if any of you have been there and can give me some tips on things you did, places you stayed, or even things to avoid. Our only really set date is Koh Phangan on May18th for the Half Moon party but besides that pretty easy going. We are all certified scuba divers that want to do some open water dives out there so any recommendations would be great.

Thanks in advance

Everything is negotiable, don't be a sucker and accept the first price given.

Don't do drugs.

Do be cautious of overly friendly locals, often they will try and extort money out of you in one fashion or another.

Street food is often the best food - judge it by how many locals are eating there.

Can't offer you much in the way of itinerary as I didn't spend much time there, heard Chang Mai and many other parts of the north is beautiful though.

Have fun.

Also, in Bangkok, if a tuktuk driver offers tot ake you round for free, he's going to take you to a shit load of suite manufacturers en route.  The driver gets coupons for petrol from the manufacturers, but from your perspective, it isn't worth it - just pay.

Taxi's - always pay by the meter, not by the route.  If it seems the meter is ticking over unreasonably quick, just ask the driver to stop and pay for the journey thus far, you won't have to wait long for another taxi to come along.
