How do you guys get motivated to revise? I'm crap at it and always get distracted, 90% of the time by RS lol, i can usually only do some real work when i'm in a working environment, how do you guys do it?

Revise a paper, easiest way is to just turn off your computer and read it again. If it is on the computer only thing I can say is GL

Here's what I do:

1. Remove everything that is fun/enjoyable/a distraction

2. Don't set a study/revision time table, they are meant for people who's lives aren't worth living

3. To decide what to do first, look at the order of exams, and do it in that order

4. Read through all the year's material

5. Go through each topic and write summary notes on important points, if its got maths/calculation do a few examples for each method

6. Once the notes for one whole subject are complete, move onto the next subject and complete the notes for that one. Whilst you take a day or two to write notes for the next subject/module the notes you wrote for the subject/module will be simmering in your head

7. Once you've finished all your notes, re-read one subject/module.

8. Take a past paper without notes and see how well you do/far you get before getting stuck. The reason you do this is because most people will just read notes over and over. This has the effect of enforcing what you do know, whilst ignoring what you need to know and currently don't. Tests highlight areas of improvement.

9. Mark the paper if you have answers.

10. Areas you need to work on go back to class exercises on the topic and improve

11. Take another past paper without notes and re-evaluate your situation

tl;dr make notes then do practice exams without notes as they highlight areas of weakness, simply re-reading notes/text books never worked for me

Some nice advice there Chris thanks, currently at LSE studying an accountancy and finance course hoping to get into investment banking, I've always done well in exams and LSE is a good university in London to get into but these are just killing me and with the new distraction of 07 scape it's got harder :P

I do something very simple, turn on some sick kunt tunes and get a gatorade. Then I focus, it's easy when you have some good tunes and a refreshing drink.

Pretty much that.

I also put my phone in another room and set a timer. Once the timer goes off  i take a short break then come back.

haha i like the way you explain what lse is :P

i'm doing economics at birmingham

kinda sucks like my exams span 29th april - 22nd of may, and like every1 else that i know their exams start like late may-june, so all I see ie every1 outside in the sun bbqing and such and i'm stuck here revising all day :(

meh after tomorrow 4/7 down and 4 month summer woooo.

But yeah what I do is not something I enjoy doing but something that has to be done. I'm not exactly what you'd call a model student but at the end of the day I get the grades ( hopefully at least lol )

You are at LCE and you have problems revising?

How did you even get into that uni then lol

Chris's advice is pretty much perfect just stick to it, if you really struggle to work at home go to the library and work there.

to be fair i have loads of m8s at top universities who almost failed their first year as they didn't know how to study properly

take self discipline

I came from a situation where i had to basically teach myself/motivate myself to learn all the material on my own as I got expelled due to non-attendance lol. From what my friends tell me about how they managed up until first year uni was that they were spoon fed information in revision sessions and normal classes, now they go uni and don't bother going seminars/lectures, and don't know how to revise.

I've had an advantage in this area i guess since done it for past 4-5 years lol, non attendance is fine imo so long as it comes crunch time you put in the hours to make sure you know it

ps i sound like 4nr on my post recent posts because my keyboard is failing me lol missing off "s" 's that make sentences flow awkwardly

After going to a private school for like 14 years where they just give you everything you need to know and you can just pick up a revision guide and nail the exam with last minute revision it's quite hard to adapt, but after using some of your advice i'm actually finding it easier, thanks all
