Been watching these debates for a while, this one is quite calm compared to the other ones. The speakers usually go ape, especially the religious-related debates.

if u take a look at the news / or newspapers carefully theres always some kind of bias leaning towards one or the other

of course.

every newspaper has it's own agendas and will hold up certain views over other views thus getting many people to see things a certain way.

I dont think this is about the news, title says social media. Not gunna watch the 20 minute vid since i already took a course on this.

The biggest problem with social media is that noone is checking to see if the information is true and noone is held accountable if they post fake stuff.

@morts and thesiz, the news is a business. They post more about what we want to see. The only bias is coming from the audience since that is what the audience wants. What the audience wants is where their revenue comes from.

what about the Koch brothers and George soros? They have tons of influence in media. Although I Agree that people watch what they want to watch.

@rangep00n

it's true that the media fuel what people want to read about. i think i can safely say that most newspapers wouldn't exist if they informed us about a new charity shop being open or a new youth movement to help clean parks. people want to read about violence/rape/murder/scandals, it's sadly more interesting to read so it's what the papers will publish.

OT: notice the role anonymity has in this whole play. the speakers mention how most people wouldn't even dream of saying some of the things they say in reality, but virtually is a different story... people don't have to show themselves and can show their true colours.

@Veta i have no idea who they are, mind telling me more about them?

I did a quick google search and saw that they contribute a massive amount of money for their political campaigns to news organizations. If this is true, this ties exactly into what i was saying about the news being a business. The news care more about money because without it, they would die.

It is out of control.

There is no solution.

To answer yes to this question would be impossible without first defining 'control'

For these things to be under control they would have to be monitored, censored, and edited by some figure of authority who withholds the ideals of a 'controlled' social media experience.

Social Media is different medias (forms) of communication and social interaction...

Think about the definitions and you understand that the information, the view points, everything that comes under social media is put across to you by an opinion.

The media which is coming to you is from a persons opinion. The people that put negative things which could potentially create the idea that social media is out of control are the thing which needs to be controlled (if you agree with that) The media itself, the speed with which things travel, can nine times out of ten be a positive thing, but its when those with less than good intentions, or immoral intentions use social media that this speed could be seen as out of control - this said, is it social media itself which is out of control OR society

Media has been corrupt and often uninformative, devaluing information, long before the modern social media products and methods of interaction we have today.. the reason? As a species we are inherently corrupt, and many are inherently evil. I'm not here to argue whether there are good/bad people in the world, if you disagree, read somebody elses post.

My point being, corruption exists, and will forever exist. The media with which we are exposed to the corruption is simply far more fast in a modern time period. Social Media itself is not out of control, but as i've said before, the corruption which exists is far more accessible to the every day person.

Ignorance and stupidity play a large role in this, if you look at Twitter, the branch of it called 'weird twitter; post offensive and creative jokes and have themes which they use to make those who are into that sort of comedy laugh. One of their joke formats is to kill a celebrity. Recently Tom Hanks was killed by weird twitter users, this information could harm or offend some people.. but with a little bit of education you'd know that @cheesegod69 was not an official tom hanks representative etc. If you also look at serious crimes in the UK such as the recent murders in woolwich, it was trending on twitter within hours, and there was racism and ignorance spread widely via social media. But any education and you'd see the ignorance and hatred in these comments.

Trolling, Racism, Media Corruption etc, all things that have become 'large' with social media (or at least far more widely accessible) are avoided with education in different aspects of the internet

To wrap it up I'm gonna say that we as a society are out of control, but I'd rather live in a free society without restrictions and a lack of freedom than one which is heavily controlled and censored to create a calm and controlled society with no free thought or speech. Social Media is simply fitting with the evolution of the human mind, we are changing as a race with our technology and architecture and our understanding of science... to have a 'controlled' social media would be like the dark ages in England, religion stopping evolution and it taking an enlightenment to progress as society beyond the restraints those in power had imposed upon us.

Educate the masses as to how to properly use and understand ALL forms of social media and then control would only not be needed, but im sure there would be innovate new elements in our social media which would only strengthen the progression of man kind

Sorry , didn't watch the video. Of course Social Media is out of control? Take the steps via ' Scientific Method ' and you'll answer this question for yourself, lol.

People are literally brainwashed by Facebook , twitter , instagram , Vine. Posting pictures of your food , clocking in via Facebook at a restaurant. Posting pictures of your money , clothes , shoes. People would rather text or tweet rather than having a face to face conversation... I see it everyday..

Watched it all

My view:

Yes, and i think it'll continue to spiral even more out of control over the next decade

Can't really do anything except employ a lot more people to moderate such sites.. but that will never happen because that costs more money

Although people can be traced, it's such a long process that 99.99% of people will never be caught because there is simply not enough people moderating them. Not to mention ways of hiding yourself online..

The government don't care though, they get what they want & will continue to spy on us using sites like these

i'd say yes, but it has its pros and cons. It is good for advertisements and introducing businesses/cooperations. It is taking over adolescents minds and stopping human beings from being active and preventing us from using our time for more useful things such as the outdoors, exercising, reading, studying, etc.
