Hurt my knee playing bball on Sunday. I found out today that it's a torn ACL. I'm probably going to get surgery over the summer. It really sucks.

Anyone have any personal experience with ACLs?

Well ive never had a torn acl but, i did tear a ligament in my ankle this year in football, i was in a cast for weeks and now i am in physical therapy. Its going to be a long recovery for you but you should be back to normal within a year or so after your surgery. Best of luck!

No but lots of my friends and cousins have torn them. And everything went well for them they just couldn't play sports for a couple of months

Depends how bad the tear is mate. Our lecturer for bio-mechanics goes on about how people can be out anywhere from six months to  a year.  Usually there's a lot of physio involved to get the knee and surrounding structures working well again post surgery.    The bad thing is that once you've torn your ACL it becomes a lot more vulnerable to tearing again so be weary and take extra care with your knee from now on.

Good luck mate.

i haven't torn my acl but i have torn other ligaments in me knee, to this day they get sore, especially in the cold (awesome since i live in the ever sunny ireland) but it is actually quite a common procedure, with physio after you should be fine

i snapped my humerus in half and spiral fractured the top half all the way up. was told by the hospital i'd be out of training for 9 months, started training light weight 3 months after and now (coming up to 6 months after break) i'm stronger than before.

don't worry too much, i have no doubt it'll be healed up 10x quicker than any-one tells you it will be
