Grifte Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 Hi, Now in my 2nd year of History course in the Netherlands. Got the option to study abroad for 6 months after the summer. My first choice was Scotland (Edinburgh), but I've just heard they cancelled the contract. I'll probably settle for England now. I've got the following options, and not really sure what to choose. Coursewise they are all pretty good, not one outstanding or really shit. Did some research, and Leeds looked decent citywise / historywise (surrounding). Just looking for a good student city, if possible some history shit to do + loads of sportmatches to visit. (Football / darts / rugby). The options: - Leeds - Manchester - Essex (Colchester) - Liverpool - Exeter Any of u England lads can give me some advice?
I Sk1tso I Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 manchester voor de breezer sletjes. Trust me.
DeltaPapa Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 Sports, Manchester or Liverpool of course. Student life, Exeter or Essex most likely.
DeltaPapa Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 fyi, there are 2 unis in machester so student life is pretty good too, i perosnally don't like busy cities though.
vult Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 (edited) i'm from leeds and you deffonately won't like it here, id go for exeter, quite a little nice city the very bottom of england ;P Edited December 17, 2013 by vult
Tris Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 Manchester or Liverpool since you're a footy fan m8.
Ruby Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 (edited) I'm a university student and I'm studying at sheffield it's shit, Ive been to Manchester and Leeds. From my personal university experience I would recommend Manchester it's a nice large city with lots of stuff to do. Edited December 17, 2013 by Ruby
Insecurities Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 Manchester's a shithole. Don't go there.
Ollie Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 Manchester or Exeter tbh Obviously Manchester would be great for top-side footie & lots to do in its big city. I live relatively close to Exeter and it's a lovely city. Exeter city aren't a top side for footie though, i think they're in league 2? History-wise, i have no idea mate. If i had the choice i'd go Exeter
Tris Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 My flat mate from the UK is from Exeter, he goes on about the sights to see and the history shit to check out but he does say the footy team is garbage.
Low Bridd Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 You should make a log of your life when you're at the university you're going to. I'm curious how it goes for you. I also want to do this, probably in a different country though. Good luck with whatever you do.
Grifte Posted December 17, 2013 Author Posted December 17, 2013 (edited) Yh it's not really about the team(s) in the city, if they are good or bad. Don't mind that, I'd like to visit lots of stadiums/tournaments if possible. In that case Leeds/Manchester are pretty central in a cluster of big cities. I like the Championship / League 1-2 more than Premier League football, so that's no problem. Exeter just lies in the middle of nowhere (if just plain based of the map). But i'll do some more research seeing alot of u are enthousiastic about it. @Craig, what makes Leeds shit? And how is train travelling in general in England? In Holland it's not that expensive and easy to book etc. Heard that u can save loads of money by booking in advance or by travelling at non-peak times? Edited December 17, 2013 by Grifte

I take a train to my university it takes me 2 hours from home, the original price is £50 for a ticket however I pay £35 with a student rail card so u end up saving a third
