Chris Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 I've not bought any new clothes in past 18 months, so the other day I was looking at making possible upgrades to my wardrobe I got myself thinking about brands, and how really overall I find them distasteful. In the past when I was younger and didn't care about what I wore etc, parents would simply get branded t shirts, jeans etc. Since I started paying for everything myself I rarely buy branded clothing as I just don't see the point. The only exception I make for spending anything over £30 on an item of clothing is with either a coat or with shoes but these are for fully practical reasons. Got me thinking, what are your guy's opinions on branded clothing. Do you wear expensive clothing? If so why? And which? idk, somewhat interesting discussion point :p
Skidddz Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 (edited) Yes, just because in most cases (I've found) that they are a better quality and tend to last longer before things like colour fading occurs. The majority of the money I've spent this past year has been on clothes, but that being said I don't just buy things for the sake of having them, I actually have to like whatever it is. Jeans - Levi's or nop. (Saying that I've got a pair of black Diesel jeans but after two washes the colour was already starting to run) T-Shirts - Anything really, don't mind as long as I like the design, I wouldn't just buy a shirt because it has a brand printed on it and I want to show off Shirts - Rarely wear anymore, had a Tommy Hilfiger that used to be one of my favourites but I really wouldn't know about this seasons ones. Everything else goes on individual style really can't think of any brands off the top of my head that I bum off anymore. Also these days I tend to buy from boutiques when I can. I hate seeing clothes that I own on other people haha, unless it's basics like jeans, it just makes me feel uncomfortable, I like having unique items I guess. Don't really buy clothes from westfields or any of those big retail places (except Harrods when I'm around) Edited February 11, 2014 by Skidddz

Shoes: <£1 a day to use, very good value even if initially very expensive to buy Coat: Very high initial cost again, but pretty much essential in the UK, and can last for 10+ years so again very low amount spent in relation to time used You can of course take the argument of how cheaper shoes/coats will offer an even greater ratio in terms of cost benefit, but in my eyes the cheaper over wear and footwear do tend to wear out more easily than say a t-shirt. I had a pair of £40 shoes and within 2 months of using them everyday they had holes in. It may have been in isolated case but never the less I've invested more initially when buying ever since
Ikz Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 (edited) Casual clothing Hollister, Abercrombie, Aeropostale, Billabong, Burton Dressier clothes American Eagle, Armani Exchange, Got my current jacket at Hollister and a snowboard jacket from Billabong Workout clothes - Underarmour, Puma, Nike, Adidas Underwear/socks - American Eagle, Nike, Hollister Shoes - Diesel (casual), Underarmour (workout) pretty much all the clothes I own, then I buy like belts from Am Eagle, hats from West 49/other skate brand stores. I'm a real label whore when it comes to clothes, I don't think I own anything that isn't name brand. I'll pay up to $50 for a t shirt, $80 for a dress shirt, $120 for jeans, $300 for a jacket, $150 for shoes, socks/underwear don't really care but I do own a pair of $36 A&F boxers lol. (they're so comfy) Edited February 11, 2014 by Ikz
Skidddz Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Yeah the crown of my wardrobe is probably my Canada Goose jacket, had to make an investment this time around, there's no way I'm freezing in the rain this year. I figured it'd last me a few years as well so it all works itself out. Most of my money goes on shoes, can't say I do it for the longevity you get from them haha, but the styles I like are pretty expensive.I won't lie I'd most likely buy a pair of shoes depending on the brand

(they're so comfy) haha bloody hollister, there is no clothing brand i hate more than Hollister/a&f . At uni at least here in the uk its mainly stuck up private school people who wear exclusively that shit, combined with jack wills...very tilting for some reason not sure what it's like in the US/canada tho Yeah the crown of my wardrobe is probably my Canada Goose jacket, had to make an investment this time around, there's no way I'm freezing in the rain this year. I won't lie I'd most likely buy a pair of shoes depending on the brand CG is something I was looking at buying. I have a Moncler but it's not waterproof...so not ideal haha very warm tho I wear it when I go skiing and don't have to wear thermals it's great :) Shoes for last 3 years I've worn almost exclusively Y-3. I love the way their shoes looks and feel when worn, just something a bit different from all the Nike and JD you see.
Skidddz Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 I tried some Y-3's last year, didn't really like them that much, can appreciate not seeing them very much though, I think JD have started stocking them now? Prepare for the mainstream to jump on the bandwagon. My favourite shoes atm are my GZ's, I don't think I've cared for anything as much as I care for these trainers in my life
3at Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 I used to work at Hollister for around 5 months. I know how it works, and why people spend so much damn money for a quality t-shirt or item from Hollister. Since i know this info, fuck that shit i'd rather buy a simple tee from another store for 10$. Retail game tough
nuuska Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 white t shirts = no brand boxers = armani, hilfiger etc everything else pretty much brand or no brand
Walli Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Brand i give little fucks about. I go for the fit, whatever fits nice i wear. When you look this good a brand makes no difference

Big Dan Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Quite into fashion but no longer wear: Ralph Lauren Hollister abercrombie lyle and scott lacoste these brands were left behind in 2010 in london by anyone who keeps up with fashion
Uaex-Ali Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Brands are a scam, although I can afford them I don't buy them unless they look really good, so when I go shopping I buy anything that looks good
Coggy Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 I hardly ever buy clothes but when I do I don't care about the brand name. Generally any of my new clothes I get was something my girlfriend picked up for me or I got for christmas or my birthday. Don't get me wrong I can afford to buy brand name clothes, I just don't see the point in buying new clothes as frequent as most people do let alone branded ones at it.
Chris Posted February 11, 2014 Author Posted February 11, 2014 find it amusing how each person who's said that they don't buy branded clothing, has to double back on themselves and clarify it's not to do with not being able to due to a financial situation haha and walli/tris It's all about the fit
Low Bridd Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 American Eagle jeans, Nike hoodie, nike shoes, vans, maybe wallabees t shirts range from billabong to nike
Spudaaa Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 i wear pretty fashionable/branded clothing. One of the main reasons is simply because they are normally the better quality and last longer, but also they look better too. However, in England some of the old fashionable clothes which some people used to wear is now worn by CHAV's who roam the streets in their fake Raulph Lauren t-shirts and 2 stripe adidas joggers.
Dizzy Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 There are really no brands that fit me that are overly priced, I do own a few polos.

k or as i Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 i wear anything that looks good and fits nice dont care about brand
Amenuh Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Eh branded clothing is nice and all but when they have their logo smack right in the middle of the shirt I'd rather not have it. I don't like to be a walking advertisement :p. Anyways the branded clothing doesn't make the person look good, it's all up to you to make yourself look good. I be seeing kids with true religion stuff on and they still look like shit...well the brand is shit after all ;)
TJ Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 (edited) Whatever looks good. As long as its not complete shit quality. Shop H&m though. And don't wear Hollister or ambercrombie. Here's some ideas I have 5-6 different button up shirts with skinny ties that I wear with a leather jacket, almost everyday I don't work. Looking like this. http://www.augustman.com/sites/default/files/2010/12/hm-mens-spring-summer-2011-main.jpg http://zdowdroosevelt.files.wordpress.com/2011/11/handmmens.jpg I usually dress like this during random days. Because I still hold the belief that real men still wear suits. Edited February 12, 2014 by TJ
