[Debate] Mars? Chosen? What?

So there's like some mars 2020 thing going on where they've picked ( nasa ) people to be test dummies to go to mars and basically neck themselves.

What is everyones thoughts on it. If possible, and if chosen.. would you go? Would you want to create a colony on a different planet?

Would you be willing to leave pretty much everything you know behind on the planet ( earth ) that you've known?

Willing to consider the fact that you may die during launch? They aren't always successful.

Will update with more stuff later but, I find this very interesting

I personally would take that chance, not like it's any better on earth with what is going on around the world, just being isolated from the rest of mankind.

Do my own thing, not have to punch in the clock, I'd be my own boss. Discover new and old things.

Exploring such a new planet would be more than an honor to have.

If nasa picked me I wouldn't have to say yes, the look on my face they would know they better send me.

Not like I got any family anyways lol, I'd give up everything. Goin into space and possibily dying would be pretty cool, I'd be floating around for an eternity.

I like my life here a lot. I can understand people who have lost a lot and think there is not much keeping them here. Or people who do not value their lives as much as I do.

What about you?

No i wouldn't go.

not gonna sacrifice my life in the name of science fuck that, but whoever does go they better give their family benefits for life or some shit cus thats a death sentence.

honestly i dont think there will ever be sustainable life on mars, and hey even if im wrong

who in their right mind would go live on mars??

it literally takes months to get there, why would you want to leave earth behind just to start again on some shitty planet.

if i wanted to live in Africa i'd go there lmao

They are testing it unmanned before they send people.  In fact, they have already had their first successful test.  But I would probably go if I was an astronaut.  You have to understand how much testing they put into this shit before actually sending people.  Yes there is a chance of failure, but the idea of being one of the first people on mars would make up for that.

btw here is some more information http://www.nasa.gov/content/nasas-journey-to-mars/#.VMfuIWjF-ao

They plan to send people to mars by 2030, and to an asteroid by 2025, so still a while to go

And some more info on the first successful unmanned mission earlier in december http://www.space.com/27924-nasa-orion-spacecraft-historic-launch.html

I never could find a reason to visit another country so there's no chance I'd go to another planet.

That was extremely depressing to read.

do you not see what's goin on around the world ? lol

why not do something out of the extraordinary in your life, goin to mars is the top notch in that circumstance. 7 billion people on earth and 1 made it to mars, ya you could die from boredom or whatever, low supplies, but who could say they made it to mars.

have you ever thought that the medieval times didn't exist and how mars looks like the result of a nuclear war. what if the Aryans were sent from mars to earth and all of a sudden humanity advanced so much in about 400 years.

re-living history

ppl take this as if once they hit mars they gunna die in couple days, first of all the voyage to there will be superlong and even then there you will have many phases while the mars base is created and you have an habitable colony, by which time you will have more ppl there and knowing the geeks in nasa they probably wont pick some ugly chicks to fly with :P

I'd definetly go, it would be worthy to call a lifetime achievement, because for now we do not have means to bring something/somebody back from mars. But as I said you probably wont kick the bucket before 2060 that leaves alot more time for technology to advance :P
